I think we may consider Megaflash as the MUST for all msx.
It add on slot 1
. dos2 evoluted support
. Sd hdd like support
. Scc sound
. 512k ram
. A flashable cartridge.

I think that the ULTIMATE cart on the 2nd slot for an msx2 must be
. Msx audio chip with sram
. Msx music chip with 256k
. A female slot for personal carts
. What do you prefer? Opl4? Gfx9000? Another female slot?

Is someone thinking about a piece of hardware like this? I would buy it !

Just buy the Supersoniqs Modulon and you can add them all. :) It even has it's own 3.58MHz crystal, so audio cartridges do sound fine in overclocked systems! It has 3 top slotconnectors and 1 at the backside ;) I think it's very expensive to produce such cartridge. Look what the DalSoRi did cost alone because of the rarity of Yamaha OPL4 chips.

The ultimate cartridge for me is :

- 2 microSD with MSX-DOS1/2 support
- Memory Mapper of 512KB or more (with MSX1 support)
- SCC sound
- MSX music with SRAM (and MSX-audio if possible)

In Slot 2, a Slot expander enough.

So if you add MSX-Music to the MFR you mostly get that!
Maybe the MFR can be modded to add a YM2413?

I don't think so, Guillian has said several times that to make this is necessary to make major changes in the actual design: it should be necesary a new FPGA that the actual used in MFR and this implies to change the PCB, the case and even the firmware.

Luckly thanks to people as Eric (Repro Factory) there is allways stock of FM-PAQs Smile

I guess you swapped Audio and Music here Tongue

But the SRAM isn't really related to MSX-MUSIC. It's just the PAC functionality.

I wasn't really thinking in implementing the MSX-MUSIC in the FPGA but adding a real YM2413 and the needed extra circuitry inside the case, a really ugly hack! Tongue

Ok, let's say:
Opl4 is expensive
modulon is ok but is very big (not so nice to see onthe dezktop too :-)
ym2413 is cheaper and small (see Guillian post)
Let's add a msx audio chip with 256k
let's add 2 female slots for user's cart.

How much would it cost?
We would have all audio standard and 2 free expanded slots.

you mean msx audio with a 256kb sram and msx music without anything right? ym2413 doesnt really have use for sampleram. The idea of a combined msxmusic/msxaudio cartridge is what I thought about a number of times. I see the following problems:

- Making the MSX music part is doable, various people have made their own fmpac clones. But what about recreating the MSX-Audio part? I dont know why nobody ever tried to recreate the Philips music module, maybe the Y8950 chip or FPGA implementation are not available? TBH I would love a smallsize msx audio/Y8950 cartridge with 256KB sram, midi ports, audio out, cartridge soundvolume dial, io switch (to use 2 of them at the same time, some software support it), .. and now I probably ran out of space on the cartridge Smile
- Many msx computers already have msxmusic/ym2413 build in, for them having another in cartridge may not be very useful.

Modulon very big? It's very compact Tongue I do like it, but that's personally ofcourse. It's only handy right now for Turbo-R, VG-8235, NMS-8245 and similar located backside cartridgeslots, but that's another story...
