Are both required for VHD games? Or if you have a VHD PC Player than an Interface isn’t required? I know a 13 Din connector is used required but excuse my ignorance. If both are required then does anyone know a Interface that is compatible with a Sharp VHD PC? I ask because they Wiki doesn’t note. Thanks!

Both VHD player with vhdpc logo( so has that din13 connector) and VHD interface (e.g. Victor IF-7900) are needed. For Sharp X1 there is interface card VO-20PS, and then also interface unit VO-20PC. Both are needed. And if game is inside vhd disc only, then X1 needs also separate VHD language interpreter (software on tape). Here is link to one closed auction that still has pictures for those sharp stuff https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u1051261504

The Sharp VP-X10B is a VHD Player with VHD PC support built in so I don’t believe that Sharp Interface would be required for it? Just an interface on the MSX side? The wiki doesn’t seem to note any compatible interfaces for it, only ones for Victor and National VHD PC Players but perhaps one of those would work?

I think these interfaces are for using with a Sharp X1 computer (non-MSX).

This tweet makes a comparison with a specific R5-232C card for Sharp X1:
https://twitter.com/superturboz/status/1295331710645633024

"A rare board that you might not know unless you write it as a VHDpc I/F board for X1. It's like adding an 8255 parallel port to the CZ-8RS with TTL level output."

Here's the mentioned CZ-8RS card:
https://aucview.aucfan.com/yahoo/x1049649266/

This other tweet confirms that it's not for MSX:
https://twitter.com/SuperturboZ/status/1295334166339260416

"In addition to VO-20PS, connecting to a VHDpc player requires an external VO-20PC, and software that loads programs from VHD also requires VHD language player software, which is much more difficult than MSX."

That sharp x10b player has only that din-8 connector, that is likely only for Sharp X1 related VO-20PC (this has din 8).
Here is link to old auction with full Sharp X1 set with x10b player: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g1057073564

In msx case there is 8 lines used for signals from din-13, so this din-8 wuold not have even enough pins to have also ground.
So most likely you need to get another VHD player that has din-13, e.g.Victor 7900.

Here's an interesting thread: https://forum.lddb.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=10102

Both Sharp models available in wiki have this unusual DIN 8 connector:

Sharp VP-2400
Sharp VP-X10B

I will remove them from the MSX wiki.

Note: It has some logic, as Sharp has never released a MSX computer in Japan.

Thanks for the info popolon_

What interfaces will work to play VHD Games that run from tape? According to the Wiki VHD Basic isn’t required for these games but the other interfaces just mention superimposing Karaoke. Not sure which will be compatible?

VHD basic is needed to run the games on tape also. In tape case, VHD basic VP command is used. So in wiki in section "VHD Interfaces for MSX" just skip those two karaoke boxes. Any other shuold work, if you just follow the needed MSX computer requirement. But the main problem is to find that interface cartridge/card. And to what astronomical price...

Thanks for the info. It seems the interfaces are also compatible Roth other computers because someone noted they were using one with a Panasonic MSX computer on another thread.
