My first computer was a Canon V-20. I remember two good things about this model: the "professional" look (or that was what it seemed to me at that time), and the ergonomic position of some control keys: in this computer, CTRL-STOP can be easily pressed with the left hand, and SHIFT-CLS with the right hand. Also, function keys are very huge and very comfortable to use.

My only "complaint" was that id has no reset key. Disk drive? At that time I didn't know what the heck was a disk! Smile

The SANYO MPC-100. Has a better design as the Philips VG 8020. Both work fine for me.

GoldStar FC-200... it has a superb cassette interface. There really was no cassette it couldn't read. Though the cartridge connector is a bit too tight I think since you need to use some more force inserting and removing cartridges and the cartridge sound isn't well balanced with the PSG sound.

Toshiba HX-10... the sound is properly balanced.

My first msx was a Yamaha CX5M and its my favorite still Wink . Only problem is that they only put 32kB ram into it. Its somewhat unfortunate that the V9938 is not 100% backwards compatible. Otherwise I'd say that CX5M-II was the best one or perhaps the SVI-738.

Indeed, the SVI-738 and the Yamaha CX5MII/128 (MSX1 with 128kB of RAM!) are probably the most complete MSX1 machines ever sold.

Not exactly like Cinderella, but the Toshiba HX10 is quite sturdy. I wouldn't be surprised if you could play soccer with it and still boot it up correctly afterwards to play Konami's Soccer on it. ^_^

Specs-wise I think there's not much to compete with the SVI indeed..

Spectravideo SVI - 738 X 'press
Great updating possibilities if wanted (msx2+), built -in vdp9938 and built in diskdrive.
And looks kinda cool as seen on above picture in Sonic Aka T:s post.
The original diskdrive is very noisy, though. And the scc sounds are too low level if not modded.

I've just seen one on eBay: eBay link
