WiFi is by definition 802.11 and not another type of wireless, so, yeah.

For one, to be able to compile code on your computer and "auto-run" it on your MSX, without any need for cables!
(Believe me, I tried homebrew development on Wii, and it was amazing to be able to hit "run" on my laptop and see the code running on the Wii a couple of seconds later.)
