The https://www.msx.org/wiki/MSX_font page should really be renamed to something like "MSX Character Set". Font is a misnomer.

I am a Typographic expert and I would say to call it 'MSX font' is not wrong. Because the characteristics of the type itself can be easily related to MSX. For example you also have fonts like the Apple font, the Rambo font (original names of these fonts differ) but therefore it's no problem to call it the MSX font. To call it a 'MSX character (set)' would be fine either.

So, a font is the shape of the characters. And wha tyou call 'character set' is supposed to be the mapping of characters to numbers/codes, right?

Indeed. That is how I would look at it. If you want to use a different name for Character set, like codepage, I could still understand it. Although codepage I think is less applicable to MSX, as it may cause confusion, seeing how you cannot simply load another codepage for another region like on MS-DOS.

The page shows both the character sets and the font.

But if you ask me what part is interesting for a programmer, then I’d say it must be the character set (or rather, character encoding Wink). While the font, well, is nice to look at but that’s all. So character set would be the more interesting topic I would look up that page for. (Oh, and please don’t use that “code page” terminology, Microsoft are about the only one that uses it.)
