For example it’s a problem if you’re testing playback of big VGM files, some single ones don’t fit on a disk, and a whole pack can easily exceed it as well. Even 32MB (FAT12) is limited in my case, because I have a whole directory full of test-VGMs (my "test suite") which I want to test fairly regularly as I make changes, and I have to delete some stuff from time to time because the partition gets full .
Dir-as-disk as it is works well, but it is limited. As I myself don’t need write access per se, I can TCL around it with diskmanipulator (generating a FAT12 partition on startup), but if dir-as-disk would work with bigger partitions, it would be convenient.
