Would be useful if user's post get moderated/approved before total posts reached a count of 10 or so... (but not for you, mate, as you'll get more job with this)
or maybe watch http links in posts and if it points to site which is not whitelisted, then make this post to have approval (still some work for admins, maintaning whitelists and having a lot of hassle with posts...)

Or only allow posting URL's after X posts?
I don't know if this would be easy to implement. Is there still anyone in the MRC team who actively works on the site function/lay-out?

It seems we are proud to have an old-school web site. LOL!
I don't want to face new members with too much mistrust, we admins have to do our job and take care of it.
At the moment this does not take the upper hand. Every day we have between two and five new user entries trying to spam. In the vast majority of cases we can easily identify them.
The last three events wouldn't have occurred to us or any ReCaptcha system. Only the Issue solved message has this as a related case.
Let's have an eye on those bastards. With your help we are going to catch'em all.

New are these three entries, where the users set spam links only at the second post. This is done well thought out and with a lot of care. No standard text is used for this. I can't believe this is made by bots.

Me neither. I think someone hires real people, in some "low-wages" country, to do this.

Of course we are anxious to make these contributions quickly recognizable but I am particularly most sorry for the members who have already answered with effort.

But this generated a nice conversation anyway!

It's a very nasty type of spam, wasting all our time coming up with answers to a BS question Sad

I don't disagree that the conversation isn't worthless, but still I hope we won't see many more of this.

And all of these spam keeps appearing in reddit word by word...

As Manuel pointed up in the last episode of spam, the reddit has an extra line adding something like "this question has been also posted on several other X,Y,Z forums".

I wouldn't be able to pass that test without researching it Smile

I've had this issue in a forum (in Spanish) I administer as well. It has a topic-related captcha too, and very little traffic. They seem to be human.
