You are using the SDLGL-PP renderer, right? Otherwise it's not effective at all Smile

Yeah. Is Grauw's vid 100% smooth for you?

In the meantime, turned HPET off, which I turned on a while ago, doesn't seem to make a difference in this regard. I could check if more recent vid. drivers help, but these older ones do run quite stable on the machine.. Smile

So I tested playback in various way, running in Chromium in a video element seems to work best.

My systems seem very sensitive, moving the mouse etc. can cause stutters (a latency monitoring tool is still showing I'm good though). If I leave it be, running looped, it runs smoothly throughout. Next to the 2s mark there are 'hard' (but small) hiccups at:

@~8s (walking upwards, appr. bottom tree) (2x shadow)
@21s (downwards next to top tree) (2x shadow)

(You were aware of those now, weren't you Wink)

So.. openMSX 0.15 can run silky smooth like, but sooner or later I do get stuttering, bit it will get back to silky smooth eventually.
But well, no one else is sharing their experience, so probably we're not getting far here.

My NVIDIA driver has an option to let it show in the GL window whether VSYNC is on or not.
As for Grauw's ROM... maybe I'm not that sensitive or things aren't working at all here, but I don't see much difference. So, I'd love to hear from others.

I can see a difference, if I pay especial attention, but it's far from a deal breaker either way.

I tested at 60 and 75 Hz.

At 60 Hz, without vsync, the shadow was blinking somewhat randomly and there was a bit of tearing visible sometimes. With vsync, the shadow was stable most of the time and the scroll was smooth most of the time.

At 75 Hz, the shadow flickers no matter the setting, and I could not distinguish vsync from no vsync. I didn't see any tearing even without vsync. I did notice the scroll stuttering in both modes.

I just tested it on my system (Macbook Pro 13inch, 2016, with a 3.3GHz i7 and 16GB RAM). Both settings of vsync in openMSX 0.15 produce very smooth scrolling and barely noticeable flickering (I had to stop movind and really pay attention to it to notice).

If I bring up the OpenMSX console, however, the shadow then starts flickering randomly and much more noticeably. Probably the UI of OpenMSX takes away some cycles and it cannot keep a steady framerate.

Thanks for testing santiontanon. What version did you test on exactly? 0.15, or a new development version (soon to be 0.16)?

Some developments here, not done testing (and tweaking) yet! Wink
(And talking about (the) aging hardware: one monitor down! Tongue) (That one was coming though...)

Looking at 50Hz at the moment, verifying smoothness in FAC IV.

Note @ testers: note that I asked (prev. page, bottom) if anyone could check whether Grauw's video was playing back 100% smoothly (without hiccups) (except the 1 big and 2 minor ones that *are* actually in the video) for them, so that's different from Grauw's initial request (which still stands / is the main thing here ;))

(Just to point out we should be careful describing our findings (what was tested precisely etc. ;))
