If you use the Konami Snatcher SCC+ cartridge RA-004 or SD-Snatcher variant RA-011 in openMSX it is detected immediately

How did you do that. I use catapult.
I tried inserting the rom in cart slot 1, no scc, had to press CTRL-R
Tried selecting "Konami Snatcher Sound Cartridge" in the extensions list, same result.

I don't use catapult, I just run openMSX. From the menu I insert the RA-004 into slot 1 and RA-011 in slot 3 (for instance). Then I insert the disk and reset the MSX (or if I am fast enough no reset is needed).

But it also works from CLI:
'C:\Program Files\openMSX\openmsx.exe' -machine Philips_NMS_8245 -exta Konami_Snatcher_Sound_Cartridge -extb Konami_Snatcher_Sound_Cartridge -diska BLAFNT.DSK

If you are not using same machine this might have something to do with sub slots... Please note that openMSX assigns these slota/exta and slotb/extb in any free slot that is defined as cartridge slot. They can be something else than Slot 1 and 2 as you might expect. Catapult makes things even worse as you have no control what so ever, but the devices are assigned to slots in alphabetical order. You can see the real slots used by using "slotmap"-command in console.

The latest development build openMSX OSD menu gives you all that control as well. It presents both disk drives and cartridge slots more like on the real machine and also gives some info about how a cartridge slot maps into the MSX internal slots. Try it out and let me know what you think!

Another option is that someone with the desired knowledge adapts blaffer nt to better detect scc, because it is the only program I encountered having problems with scc detection Smile

I tried this on real hardware and the detection works well for:

  • RA-004/RA-011 original SCC-I
  • Real SCC with disabled ROM (switch)
  • Popolon’s SCC-I clone

All these I tested in a primary slot on an FS-A1ST while booting from a real floppy. It does not detect the SCC in my Carnivore2 if I start it through SofaRunIt. I suspect it only detects SCC’s in primary slots but it does so well enough.

It has been over twenty years already, but iirc you can also force the SCC through slot 1 or 2 by using graph+1 or 2. The SCC detection routine was poorly implemented and I think BiFi once udpated the replayer code to support a better SCC detection routine. Not sure if it helps, but just so you know Smile
