In the development version of openMSX, we implemented support for subdirectories in dir-as-disk.

We are looking for feedback on this feature. Is someone willing to check it out and give us feedback?

it seems to work
since not many (if none) floppie exsist that have subdirs next step should be removing the size limmit?

if you have more files on the root or subdirs than 720 kb catapult will give a message saying blahblah.file is trunkated

so ill wait patiently for a bigger size

It may be possible to use a bigger size, up to 32MB (similar to a FAT12 partition). The limited is caused by the FAT12 system indeed, as the dir-as-disk does nothing than dynamically translate a directory structure into a virtual floppy disk that the MSX sees.
If all diskROMs can handle 32MB FAT12 partitions, then it will be OK, I guess. There's no special ROM present to do anything. I'm not sure how this is for IDE/SCSI systems on MSX though. Does it use extra ROM stuff in those cartridges to support 32MB partitions or is it supported natively by the normal diskROM?
