Some "cheaper" 'notebooks' ... A normal "notebook" will cost $600-800. The
educational ones would be $200.

It is easier to buy the normal ones, but for educational purposes the other projects
are more interesting because their could reach a better Information Technology.

I think 3rd world can't afford computer even at 12$. What they really need is an abacuss. It is very power efficient.

They want to make a technological fix for problems which doesn't have a technologically possible solution.

The students engaged with that project most likely doesn't know this, maybe never thought about it, they're just proud to do something ''most important'' for the underdeveloped countries. The keyboard in the front annoyes me, it pretends that the product they ''design'' can have such a keyboard for $12!

The whole scene reminds me on a practical course where students are told to do that task in one term. After that, they'll get their certificate of having successfully completed that course. Everyone is proud then, and that's it.
