If it will be released soon, it'll be released in Japan only. I doubt a parallel release outside of Japan as well, though I guess Bazix will know for sure.

And will "importing" be an option this time? Or it will be *AGAIN* illegal?

What's illegal about importing when both parties agree? I recall in the mid-nineties, the A1ST and the A1GT were imported (to NL) from Japan, by companies as MSX club Gouda, GeNET (don't know for sure), and more of them... That wasn't illegal.

To what are you referring with *AGAIN* illegal?

GENIC was the name of the group that imported the first MSX machines from Japan. It started with MSX2+ machines, and many other groups and individuals also started to import when the turboR's became available. GEN stands for Global English Network, a name invented by the german Robin von Hoegen, who lives in Japan. He was then a MSX hobbyist with many European contacts (still have the letters he sent me with those nice Japanese stamps!) . When the MSX2+ appeared, he bought them in a Japanese store and sold those to Europe, he was the source of my first MSX2+. Bas Labruyere and friends started to cooperate with Robin and made that into GENIC, importing on large scale. Eventually that group, after many personal changes Smile evolved to the current Sunrise.
What GENIC and others did was not illegal, but in no way approved nor supported by the Japanese MSX companies. No warranty from the European offices, only Japanese documentation, no adaptation to European standards such as BIOS, keyboard layout, video, power supply. To save shipping costs most turboR's were sent without documentation!

So maybe Pitpan means: only support in Japan and Japanese!
Or refers to the attempts to make it difficult to buy the MSX Magazines from outside Japan?

With ILLEGAL AGAIN I just wanted to recall the lame excuse for not producing a european MSX Magazine. They said that it was illegal to sell MSX MAGAZINE outside of Japan because of the copyright agreement between the MSX ASSOCIATION and Microsoft. Of course, the truth is that they did not want to produce an european MSX MAGAZINE because it wasn't as economically appealing.

But just read the old topics about this.

I donot agree with the remark Hanso Genic has become Sunrise. There are so many differences between them and us nowadays. Stichting Sunrise is more driving on tis own force with own products instead of importing stuff.
That doesnot mean we are japanese products , look at the gamereader e.g.

But to the remarks of pitpan.

Well there are two possbilities -if it happens as Bifi describes-

1. Buying from MSXA via Bazix directly, so you pay via paypal the amount and
you get your package at home.

2. Bazix isnot directly interested and asks someone or organazation to
represent it.

For the time being you must first convince yourself what the price is,what it brings to you ( meaning are the specs executed, how many ram ,is it a msx1 msx 1 plus etc)

right, at least I am NOT interested in that....
if MSXA does only produce japanese this and that... then FUCK OFF!

but hey, i hope its to early to judge... but im sceptical

I donot agree with the remark Hanso Genic has become Sunrise.

So much has changed, but GENIC became Sunrise! The current Sunrise has nothing more in common with the GENIC group, but you can not deny the line from Genic to Sunrise Smile.

Euhm guyz... I feel like I'm repeating myself again and again towards the same people, but euhm... the (commercial) MSX Revival has -always- been one of relatively slow progress and taking one step at a time. At the time the first two MSX Magazines were released in Japan, it was not possible to distribute the MSX System ROMs legally outside Japan. Now, it is.

However, for releasing an European MSX magazine equal to the Japanese magazines there are still many obstacles which don't make me very optimistic about it appearing in the near future. Distribution is hell, printing is quite expensive, licenses are hard to arrange, especially when you want to print a small amount of magazines, language is a huge barrier (even Dutch people tend to leave English magazines alone), finding a publisher (there's no ASCII in Europe, you know) is troublesome, et cetera, et cetera. As it is now, releasing an MSX Magazine in Europe is not 'not as economically appealing' as releasing an MSX Magazine in Japan, it's throwing piles and piles and piles of money away with very little chance of even getting remotely close to a break-even-point.

Still, it took the Japanese a long while as well. EGG had been running for months before the first rumors on MSX Magazine 1 appeared. In Europe, the first step is yet to be taken. (Hang on, my dear friends!). As in Japan, the success (or failure) of each step more or less decides whether or not a next step can be taken. If there's any MSX Revival news from Japan or Europe, I'm sure it will make it to the MRC frontpage in no-time. Just try and have a little confidence, ok? Smile

btw, an msx1+ isn't that interesting.. a new msx is -for me- supposed to be a technical follow-up of a tR+g9k+moonsound Smile
