It would be nice if the OCM could run all existing MSX software before having it expanded with totally new stuff...
I still very much like this idea: software for OCM comes with a piece of VHDL which is loaded into the FPGA when the program is loaded, to accelerate certain things in hardware
better basic lots of extra commands.
And what about that cas-port?
The MMC/SD card will 'replace' cassete tape and floppy disk, and programs can be transfered from PC or MSX-PLAYer to the MMC/SD card. So I guess there are some tools for that on the CD-ROM.
Then I wonder what to do with all copy protected disks. Have they finally developed a tool to make 1:1 images which actually work? I don't think so. :-?
Guess we have to rely on very badly cracked versions which circulate on the internet or get the disassembler and remove the protection ourselves?
Errr. Ever heard of MegaSCSI and its floppy disk emulation tool EP? It rocks...
@wolf: there are almost no 4MB issues... and if there are I'll fix it
Errr. Ever heard of MegaSCSI and its floppy disk emulation tool EP? It rocks... Yes, I know it is a disk emulation tool, but can it emulate disks with 'bad sectors', tracks with different interleaves and/or modified sector numbers, disk with more than 80 tracks,...?
Then there is the problem: how to convert your own original, copy protected disks into image files without losing a single bit (= capable of copying disks in raw mode, including info between the sectors and tracks). As far as I know there are no programs which are capable of doing that on PC and/or MSX.
Amiga with X-Copy. Rocks.
Sure , supposed you have one or a prototype of the all in one ! Arg. Jon/francisco where stays the adaption for IDE.
But still you cannot guarantee the functioning of all
I think we should define features that is relatively easy to develop (the 'quick wins')
my list of 'quick wins'
USB Pen drive support
USB keyboard support
Small extentions for vdp (step by step) for example replacing the logical copy logic with a faster one for better performance on software sprites in existing and new software.
More complex features to develop and therefore features that only come available on the long term.
new fast z80 40-80 mhz (well, Snout won't tell us an estimate of the current cpu speed (damm, I really would like to know, pff ) so maybe it is fast enough already
)
New faster V9958 compatible VDP with more vram, higher resolution and more colordepth
MP3 decoder
Mpeg2 decoder
MSX-Audio support
I hate to disappoint you, but MP3 and MPG2 are definately out of the question. I doubt the FPGA could handle those alone, much less when stuffed to the rim with all sorts of MSX g00dness...
