Okay, so I'd like an msx2. the titles i'm mainly interested in playing are the metal gear series and vampire killer. a 1chipmsx would be ideal but those are like collector's items now and I can't afford those. I can't really afford the game carts either so is it possible to pirate those for an original msx? I'd imagine so. I'd also like to use a gamepad aswell and if i recall correctly you could convert atari controllers to be used on an msx. So what is a good msx pc? Is it possible I can output the video on to a TV like with the 1chip? anything else like a 1chip? Thanks for reading and I'd highly appreciate a response.

Emulators just ain't the same as the real deal.

I'm also assuming it's possible to use new ips patches with said msx games above.

All MSX types can be connected to a tv. For the games you want to play (especially MG2) you need a MSX2 with at least 512 Kb memory. And be sure you buy a MSX with NTSC output.

And when you want sound with the newer Konami games, you need a cartridge with a SCC chip. Also, a FM-Pac is recommended.

Or dont upgrade the ram and with the money saved buy a MegaFlashRom SCC cartridge from msxcartridgeshop.com. Then you only need 64KB ram to run games like Metal Gear 2. Though 128KB would be a minimum IMHO and of you would like to use a CF reader and DOS2 I'd really recommend at least 256KB

As you live in the US, the better set for you will be:

- Japanese MSX2 with built-in 720K floppydrive
- MegaFlashROM SCC+

Later you can buy an MSX-Music cartridge to play other types of games

Another option, a bit more expensive but much easier to transfer the games would be:

- Japanese MSX2, can be diskless
- MegaFlashROM SCC+
- A SD or CF card interface

I play on TV too using the S-Video port. Only Panasonic WSX, ST or GT have one and they are more expensive though. The quality is very good but some european games in 50hz are no go for me like Manbow2, Sonyc, etc. I need to find a monitor that supports 50Hz and here in Canada is very hard. I know I can use amiga color monitors through the RGB port but I'm not sure about the 50hz. As far as I remember they are all NTSC only. The other solution is a PAL/NTSC converter but they exist only for composite which is not so good as S-Video. Makes sense there is no S-Video in europe.

Other problem for me here was to find a external usb drive that supports 720k. I bought 2 useless units until I found those guys at:

the have cheap external 720k units.

There *is* s-video in Europe. But why use it if you can use SCART? Smile Anyway, for RGB NTSC/PAL is irrelevant, only the display frequency can be.

I've used a commodore 1084S monitor and it was capable of doing 50 and 60hz. it is a well know monitor so it shouldn't be to hard to find I guess?

Is there any way I can upgrade the processor speed or change it on an msx2 or do I just have to find one with the speed I want?

Ideally I'd like atleast 10 mhz. I also want to use an atari 7800 euro controller for gaming unless anyone can recommend a better pad.
