@wolf_: If you want plain and logical, why don't you program PC games instead? They solved the problem 15 years ago and so did nintendo and others. To motivate the existence of an OCM MSX3 I think it needs to have MSX characteristics (whatever that is). Making a totally new gaming platform based on 15 year old technology for the price of a modern console doesn't really make sense, does it?

Just in a rush.. MSXDev'06 knocking on the door and Edwin's buggy editor kicking projects out.. Tongue

Anyway: let imagination be a limiting factor, not a machine..

Indeed Wolf, reacting that way almost gives the idea you don't get the charm of the MSX system. That can't be true, tho Smile

dvik: so in the OCM you want to include characteristics that are somewhat annoying to developers?

Plain and logical doesn't mean a complete culture shift, a handful o' small updates and we're happy.

To prevent continuing on what's right or wrong, step out of the of the global idea that things are different and simply list all the artifacts the MSX has compared to, say, a PC. Then we can discuss the differences.

I think we all agree, Wolf. I myself asked for such updates in the MSX3 system. I just tried to point to a certain charm of the old MSX system. You must agree we had great fun doing and looking at those MSX tricks, acting like the MSX being a computer underdog and all.

Ok,

1 just list all kinda things that makes an MSX different from a PC (include anything, cpu, mem, vid, sound etc.)

2 After that we will observe that these differences are quite trivial.

3 Then we will conclude that even just minor improvements are enough to soup things up.

4 Then we will slap J-War with a fresh new amoeba Tongue

Can we start with 4? I agree on 3, always did.
And yes, a cold comparison between PC and MSX probably gives trivial results.

Still, an MSX is much more than a PC. At least, in my eyes. If you DO see MSX the same way as a PC, then I wonder what the f*ck you're doing here on this community site. I would suggest other PC forums which are a lot more updated than this one ^_^

Back to the subject: There is a great need for a structured OCM development platform. And I don't see much action on that part. Sadly enough Sad
