E.T.! More specific: the version were you get stuck in a hole and never, ever be able to get out. Even I can program that, ha,ha!

And how about Vampire Killer 2? Usas 2? Metal Gear 3? Aleste 3? Xak IV? Forces Beyond Empire?

* votes for Usas 2, and if no-one else will do it, I'll do so.. someday..

And when that day comes, I'll gladly say: pub.unreal64.net/boor/icon_hannibal.gif 'I love it when a plan comes together!'

...I think this is a very good puzzlegame. It would be great to see this game ported to MSX.
Maybe a MSX-2 game with nice screen 7 (or even 8??) background pictures & FM/PSG musix.
Or with a little bit simpler looks on MSX-1.
*This is a free hint for all you coders, to make another instant classic in msx gamehistory. :P

It' s a bummer that I know merely nothing about coding with MSX. :-?

Super Robot Taisen

Winkey Soft, who developed Super Robot Taisen, are old MSX developers. Check out their "Akanbe Dragon". It has animals instead of robots, but it's obviously a predecessor to the Super Robot series.

Also check out Mecha Taisen on Planet Oldskool from the latest MSXdev.

NES version looks OK. Doable in MSX1 with some sprite flickering. Pixel perfect for MSX2. But I don't like the game. I'd go for a better MSX1 port of the original Pacman game.

In this situation i vote for a msx1 version. Even with flickering should look ok.
In the first level there are cars (not present in NES version) ghost and the main charater. With two sprites/scanline each we reach 6. In the worst case there is something like a projectile launched from an airplane. So 7 sprites on a row.
Flickering should not so disturbing. Freq should be 25hz.

Scrolling could be at 8x8 omnidir.

What i do not know how are the next levels.

A Port of Rogue for the MSX would be extremely cool too...I don't know if you have ever tried to play a roguelike game, but... Don't be scared by the extremely simple graphics and think about DIABLO and DIABLO II, and you will have a hint about how Rogue is played. I tried to have a look at the source code of the 4.2 version, but even if that source code was made in 1981 I think that probably it would be too difficult to adapt the code for a MSX1 :(
Probably the only way to have a Roguelike game for the MSX1 is to rewrite one from the scratch, like Mastertronic have done with the C64, Spectrum and the Amstrad CPC versions (Damned British publishers... I always felt like a second-class citizen, seeing a lot of software for a million of different hardware platform *EXCEPT* the MSX)

We discussed the possibility of implementing a Hack/Rogue-alike game for MSX some time ago. You can check the original topic at the Karoshi forum. Part of it is in Spanish though :(
