That's actually the video that brought me to this topic. I was confused, because it looked like you beat stage 1-1 without collecting all the screws, and then you beat stage 1-2 really quickly and at a really nondescript location, so I clicked the link to this topic and learned about the ? key cheat and all that.

I'd recommend reading over my previous posts in this topic -- you might be surprised how different this game is than what you thought!

John: I've confirmed that the Force Unit is basically just another item you need to get in order to complete the stage. If you try to exit the stage without the Force Unit, you just get a message that says "You missed the Force Unit!", and you're sent back to the beginning.

The difference between the Force Unit and the screws seems to be minimal, but basically, since all first-half stages must be completed by going in a door, the Force Unit is kind of like the key to that door -- if you try to go through the door without it, nothing will happen at all.

If you have the Force Unit, but haven't collected all the screws, you'll be able to go through the door, but you'll get a message saying that you don't have enough screws to complete the stage.

Thanks, Tom. Do you need to get each and every screw, or is it a certain amount? I noticed some of them are pretty hard to reach, and you'd even have to go all the way back if you can't get it anymore for being on the wrong platform.

Bingo. Wink

Far as I can tell, you need to get each and every screw, every time. So if you're new to a stage, you need to "learn" it so you know in advance which platforms to jump on and which ones to avoid.

The game is definitely pretty brutal! I've made it to stage 4 now, though -- but I beat stage 3 *purely* by luck. Although I translated the completion conditions for each stage earlier in this thread, I tried my best to forget what they were so I could use RPG mode to figure them out as I played... but in stage 3, no matter how many monsters I RPGed, I couldn't seem to get a straight answer, and had absolutely no idea what time of day I was supposed to get to the end of stage 3-2 at.

Fortunately, it seems I must've started the stage at just the right time, because I naturally got there just after noon, and that was apparently exactly the right time, because it took me right to the boss. So I totally got lucky on that one!
