Hi! As far as I know, what you can try:

  • press [SHIFT] + [CTRL] at the same time to switch the keyboard layout of your PC
  • try out different key combinations together with [SHIFT]. If the " is not above your 2 key, then it may be somewhere at the right side of the middle row of your keyboard (maybe the ' key?)
  • there must be some way to set a certain language/country set-up for the keyboard, on your PC or blueMSX itself
  • are you emulating an Arabian machine with blueMSX? Go to 'Options' --> 'Emulation' in the menu and select the type of MSX, there's Arabic MSX1 and MSX2

I hope this helps somehow.

I'm interested to know if this works for you in openMSX... openMSX has some special keyboard code that tries not to care what kind of keyboard you have, but does try to care what kind of character you want to type.

Manuel, openMSX is far superior than blueMSX but common users are afraid of openMSX. For the reasons below:

1) NO ROMS, they must go for it. For n00bs this is a hard task. The stupid web site don't even tell you where to get them. Oh it's illegal, f*k the illegal....

2) Bad name for the GUI interface: Catapult. What is catapult for a common user ? "I installed openMSX, i wan't to run openMSX, so I click all programs -> open msx -> open msx and voila". They don't even notice there is a catapult installed together windows version. So they often think there is no friendly user interface.

3) The debugger is not up-to-date. When you install it from official web-site it's a very old crap and bugged version. People and even developers don't know they need to get it direct from source forge.

4) Documentation ignores completely catapult. I even had problems to find where is the stdout since catapult hides it and THERE IS NO F*KING MENTION ABOUT IT!

That's it, but i still love that bitch.

Thanks retrocanada Smile

Some comments:
1) I don't know a site which contains all ROMs.... if I would I indeed wonder if we would add the link. I'll discuss with the team.

2) OK, good point.

3) Where do you get it? The one on on openmsx.sf.net links to a build that is as recent as I have it (for Windows), i.e. built with Visual Studio. I can't do such a build myself. If someone does new builds, I'll be happy to upload them and point to them. Those builds are of SVN revision 10055 (Feb 10 2011). There is also a Windows snapshot build made with MinGW, which is a couple of months more recent. Is that the one you mean? If yes, I'd be happy to add that link.

4) There is a separate Catapult manual: http://openmsx.sourceforge.net/catapult-manual/ It's linked to from the web site and from the FAQ. So, I don't really understand this remark... What do you mean with the stdout thing?

bronzesun, have you also tried with the 'Extra' menu of blueMSX (it's the 5th one) to modify the keyboard?
I think there is an option in the 'Extra' menu called 'Controls'. But I cannot be sure because my blueMSX is in Dutch.
But try the 5th menu.

When you run the openMSX through catapult and type the shell command:

set cputrace on

You don't see any trace at all, because the Info tab is the stderr only and not stdout

The debugger is more than a year old. Someone should update the executable there.
