About a year ago i bought a few Level 9 adventures on tape

one of them was Ingrid's back

http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/3558

This game only works partly;
it loads completely and the games starts up and start blabbing out text ending with "What gnow?"
after that you can enter commands like go north ,go south etc.

but,

as soon as you want to "LOOK" or "EXAMIN" something the game hangs

i tried on several emulators but on all of them the same error

I cant imagin Level 9 selling a game that doesnt work on any MSX
s0 i want to know if it is a machine related error

i tried it on a SVI 728
a 8245
a 8250
a TurboR (using RMSX)
HX-10

unfortunatly i dont have more REAL MSXes i can try it on

My question; is anyone here willing to hook up his.her cassetteplayer on a real MSX not listed here and try this ?

for "assistance" mail me at voivod blahbla-yaddayadda gmail.com

thanks

Couldn't it be a problem reading the tape? or with the tape itself? Much more plausible than a bug in the game...

It is very unlikely that a Turbo R can handle a game on tape Tongue

Oeioei,

I've got a VG8020 @ home, maybe you can use that one to test it.

i actually used a registered version of RMSX (also from NYYRIKKI)

cassete broken???
that would be strange
this tape has two sides with the first part is Ingrid's Back on it
i "cass-ed" both sides and those files are 100 % identical

and again
all Direction commands work
anything else fails

It just need the "azimuth" to be slightly different from the recording for it to read data wrong. Or you could have a small scratch or bent on the tape somewhere, or even it could just be failing because of time or even dust! ...too many options!

It just needs a single byte being read wrong to freeze the game under certain circunstances. In the 80s that happened a lot to me, since everyone here in Brazil recorded tapes with different settings... usually had to change the azimuth for each tape to work Tongue

I still bet on the tape (or the dump) being bad.

ok
so
if i make like 10 or so dumps with tap2cas and they are ALL the same (content in mean)
that would rule a faulty dump out

remember its the same ORIGINAL tape i used on the different machines
i realigned the cassettedeck with some head alignment kit before i made this dump

ill try it but i really dont think thats te problem

It´s not just user-copied game tapes, you may have to adjust azimuth with original tapes too, even if you use just original tapes only. Smile I had to do that in the eighties. Smile It was normal. Smile

I never touched the tape recorders internals, and I've used tape for like 7 years Smile Intensely!
