Title says it all. Is there a BGM-mode in this game, or else some separate BGM player made by some hacker kid? I'd like to check out all these tunes.. :RNFF:

Here is the rip for the MSX version (maybe incomplete) :
http://perso.numericable.fr/popolon/hoot/jiku_msx.zip
by the way, there is (3 voices only) FM tracks in this game not mentioned on generation MSX

to play it, put the archive in the MSX folder of hoot (CRTL+R to reload the list if needed)
http://perso.numericable.fr/popolon/hoot/hoot20110515.7z
(japanese titles but you can romanize the kogado.xml if you prefer)

i don't know how to make a KSS of it, it would be more convenient...

So, how the hoot do I run hoot? There's a hoot.exe which does nothing but reporting an error, and hootclient.exe does nothing but showing a popup.

(Win7/64)

Take a look at the FAQ :
http://snesmusic.org/hoot/v2/faq.php

You need additionnal files. Also xml files need to be updated.

After updating HOOT and putting the music sets in the good subdirectories (MSX kss files in MSX subdirectory), you can use partially HOOT. I say 'partially' because some systems (especially PC88) seem to require the game roms (can be also dsk !) in the rom subdirectory. I guess it can also be the case for MSX if you don't use KSS files.

OMG, who's developed all this. :S Needless to say: after running through that first section of the FAQ: no difference. Same errors.

In order to run the latest "Hoot" you need the following config :
Win 7
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistribuable package (32/64 bits)
DirectX 9

Mars2000, no additional files are needed to play it with the files i provided ^^
the kogado.xml included in the 20110515 is updated.
More info on Hoot (in french) on my blog :

Just installed vc2005 redist.pack. *grmbl*
I have DX11

Where's the time gone when things just work out of the box without additional installing of crap no one wants? Sad Needless to say, still the same error. This is usually the point where I just wipe the whole thing from my HD.. ._.

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."

too bad, Hoot is a masterpiece for japanese Chiptunes lovers
I can rip the musics if you want me to... but...
did you install the correct 2005++ files for your system ? i think it's the problem here.
@Mars, monte le son, la version PC88 fonctionne chez moi Wink
You're using old version of Hoot, since 20110515 you need VC2005++
