sc8 is not much of a game-friendly screen. If you want doublebuffering you already need 2 screens ..
sc8 has 2 screens .. where do you want to store your tiles-to-draw and other stuff ?
Game-options on msx2 are sc5 (did anyone every consider sc6 ? ), sc4, sc2 ..
sc8 might be suitable for puzzles in which little happens on the screen.. I can perfectly imagine a chess-game on sc8 orso ..
btw, regarding screendrawing, is sc6 equally fast as sc5 ? it's hi-res, but!, less colors, 4 pages.. so the amount of data-moving would be the same as sc5 ..
not a nice screen to draw on sc6 but there are games on sc7
Plus, screen 8 has a fixed palet for sprites. So not ideal for games either.
yes but when you make a game in sc8 it made in asm, so you can use a copy of a tile
Zett, I know a SC7 game called Xak: The Art of Visual Stage. Ever played it? You'd never want to do that again. Scroll's all messed up.
hemm the game hylide 3 for msx2 is olso in sc7 one of the best gfx i've seen
sc7 is like sc8 again ... only 2 screens.. and twice as much vram traffic as on sc5.
[edit] seriously: is sc6 as fast as sc5 ?
What about XAK1. Also screen 7 ^_^ *edit: ARF, sorry Tailz......*
Yes, SCREEN 0:WIDTH 1 is probably the best option: 24 bytes/frame.
@wolf_
from my tests I remember scr6 was as fast as scr5, at least for high speed VDP copy, but 4 colors....
