I've used OpenMSX once or twice but never its tape emulation. I've skimmed through the manual and it looks easy to do. Follow this if it helps any.

To Save
(1) Pause the game in Metal Gear & bring up the save menu and input a name like MG1 or MG2, something you'll remember
(2) Go to the Console and type "cassetteplayer new <filename>" without the quotes and replace <filename> with something. Might want to match it with the save name you just inputted earlier like MG1.
(3) Go back to the game and proceed to save to tape
*Also you might want to select N for NO when it asks to verify the data.

To Load
(1) Pause the game in Metal Gear & bring up the load menu
(2) Go to the Console and type "cassetteplayer insert <file>.wav"
(3) Go back to the game and input the name that you used to save with.
(4) In the Console again, type "cassetteplayer play", remember without the quotes.

I just put this together off the top of my head, so I'm not exactly sure if this will work. Tongue

It's much easier if you use BiFi's Metal Gear SRAM patch available on http://ips.tni.nl/rom/fixes-other/konami/
After patching the ROM, play it with Konami's Game Master 2 into the other cartridge slot.

Try using save disk feature of Game Master 2. I know for sure you can save your game that way, I've even tested it on real MSX.

With the Game Master 2 you can save & load your game data to a floppy disk. This my favorite feature of the GM2 because they're basically save-states. It god-send when playing hard shmups like Gradius 2 and Salamander.

When you want to save to disk press STOP key and then the CTRL key during your game. This will bring up the GM2 save/load menu. Make sure you have a blank formatted DSK inserted in the disk drive.
