Hi all!

I'm using bluemsx as an emulator for playing MSX-games. Is it possible for bluemsx to save a highscore of any game?
Or should I use another msx-emulator tyring to reach this goal?

Kind regards,
Dennis

You can make a save state corresponding to the highscore you have reached (so, generally at the end of the game --- if you use blueMSX 2.8.3 beta, the reverse feature can be helpful - F6 key - then pause with F9 and make the save state with F8).

The next time you play this game, load the save state with F7 (if you don't have made other save states in the mean time) or Left Alt + F7 (if you have made other save states in the mean time). You can also drag and drop the .sta file in the blueMSX window.

The .sta files are stored in the Quicksave sub-directory of blueMSX; if you don't find them under Vista or Win7, you need to search for the files in the "Compatibility files" section. A way to avoid that is to download the zipped version of blueMSX and to unzip it in a new folder, outside of the Program Files and other directories created by Windows.

Thank you for your quick answer. But I'm trying to achieve the following:

In the near future I'm planning to build an Arcade-cabinet. I wil use Hyperspin as a frontend which can run several emulators of classis computer consoles / cabinets.

I'm using MAME to play classic arcade-cabinet-games. The original source of MAME can be patched to save highscores automatically. This is perfect when playing on a cabinet. It should save your highscore automatically without having to push a button on a keyboard, because a cabinet doesn't / shouldn't use a keyboard. So I've MAME succesfully setup to automatically save highscores and still be visible when starting the game a next time.

To be able to play MSX-games I've to use an emulator like for example blueMSX. But I also want highscores of MSX-games to save automatically without having to push a button on a keyboard or using the mouse to save a state of a game.

So I was wondering if the above is possible. If so, which emulator should I use and how do I have to set it up saving highscores automatically?

Kind regards,
Dennis

I don't think there's an MSX emulator that can automatically save/load highscores but maybe a script in openMSX could make that. As memory addresses and formats can be different for each game to store these data, I guesss one different script needs to be written for each game that interests you. So, it's probably not evident !

That's a pity!

With so many cool MSX-games it should be possible to automatically save your highscore. Just like the classic cabinet games like Donkey Kong, Pac-Man etc...

If there is anybode else who happens to know a solution please let me know Smile
