There has been some discussion about sega controller modifications, but I don´t remember any about joysticks.. so I just want to know does Master System´s Speedking joystick plug directly to MSX joystick port and if it plugs, does speedking need any modification to work properly or at all?

Thanks. Smile

Both Master System and Mega Drive pads and joysticks are "Atari 2600 VCS" compatible , when plugged on MSX only one button should work ... There is some risks about using unmodified controllers, but their use the standard DB9 (Atari Game Port).

Sega paddle use multiplexing : pin 7 are forced to 5V in shematic

is the same adaptator for Master System just button C and B are inverted

button A is inactive with MSX

Well one button is fine for me. Smile

Like burn your msx? To it´s death? Has anyone really burned msx by using different computer system´s joystick/mouse/paddle?

Not burned to death, but I once had one of those long atari2600 joysticks connected to my msx (a VG8020 at the time) and if I pressed the second firebutton on that joystick my MSX would reset. Worse... the screen went blank as long as a pressed that button, so I assume I was actually short-circuiting a few pins that in the long run might indeed have damaged my MSX... Question

Hmmm... it sounds bit strange, as Atari type sticks don´t have japanese style "first" and "second" button. Anyway, dangerous moment it would be if joystick resets machine.

turbor, I now recalled, that in the eighties I heard, that someone Commodore 64 owner used Canon´s MSX joystick as a RESET button for his Commodore 64. No need to built button, just acquire Canon´s MSX joystick... now I guess that it could work with any MSX joysticks on C=64.....

I guess I shouldn´t try to press second button, when I get those sega sticks. But.... it´s so tempting..... Wink just to see what could happen...... Tongue Wink It´s hard to believe, that there could be a human being who won´t have any thoughts to "just quickly click" that second button..... Tongue

Hmmmmm..... have anyone tried to advice their little/bigger children: "You can play this MSX game as much as you want, but DON´T push that second button......." Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue

Thanks Jipe. Smile

There was no mentioning about possibly danger if someone uses Master System joystick on MSX.

But there was mentioned what happens if one uses Amiga mouse on MSX, but on Amiga mouse page there it was not mentioned... Wink Luckily I didn´t try to use Amiga mouse on MSX few years ago... Smile2

It feels so strange... as in the 80s, it didn´t matter what joystick you did use, as long as you could plug it to your computer. Smile

So it is safe to use my Master System joystick on my MSXs? ??? Got them today, but haven´t tried them yet on my MSXs.
