Gateway to Apshai (Epyx)
nice memories...
It had a quite clumsy interface to use spells and anctions... but it was a lovely D&D
For this reason I prefer AD&D for Intellivision (much simpler interface and more atmosphere)
My idea is alwas to port such a kind of game to msx...

Even in Japanese the relatively recent Falcom PC games (Legend of Heroes series / YS 6- The Ark of Napishtim) are wonderful as well.

Demonseed, SCREEN 2 / SCREEN 4 was something like what I had in my mind. Smile

And again, surely here you can find people who wanna help you learning SC2/SC4 stuff! Smile

Wizard of Wor arcade´s graphics are (except amount of colourful sprites) really close what MSX-1 can do without any flicker!! Big smile That is another reason that it would be foolish not to convert it to MSX-1 too! Smile

I also hope that game could also have possibility to "force" it to run in SCREEN 2 when pressing certain key on booting, just to make life easier, so I could enjoy BOTH conversions on ONE machine, without needing to carry MSX2 away from table and then try to find MSX-1 from the closet and vice versa everytime I want to play MSX-1 or MSX-2 conversion.

Demonseed, I will keep waiting, but hopefully not forever! Smile

@ MäSäXi
Well, I hope to make it, one day. Wink
By the way, have you ever considered trying to learn some coding?
Your enthusiasm and energy would make for a lot of great games I think! Smile

But the same code for both generations? That's probably only when it uses screen 2 on #1 and screen 4 on #2 (if I'm not mistaken).
And there's the twist: I only know how to properly code for screen 5, because it's easy! Smile

Screen 2/screen 4 is plenty easy to work with - it's just text mode with more tiles and color data for them. Drop me a line if you want a detailed explanation.

Regarding non-MSX games, there are only a few i would consider as the best ones:

Litle big adventure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Big_Adventure)
Very good graphics, music, fx, story.

Another World (http://www.anotherworld.fr/anotherworld_uk/index.htm)
Amazing and very difficult game. Vector-like graphics (only 16 colours!). Only 1 diskette, by the way.
There is a new version also.

I always thought that French games were the best.

Well, I think that's awesome of you, thanks!
The truth is, I'm following a course right now to learn how to program in C, but I'm not doing very well.
I was especially referring to just using screen 5 with the great NBASIC - thanks to this piece of work, even I managed to create something halfway decent at a certain point:
http://www.msx.org/MEGA-Challenge-09.-LEDA.newspost4802.html

When my skill at C has reached a certain level, it would ofcourse be a logical step to create a game for this screen modes.
Maybe, if you'd write a little tutorial for everyone willing to take on the challenge of using screen 2/screen 4?
I suspect it would be a great help to a lot of potential developers.
BTW, for me, ASM is out of the question - I can't study something which gives me major headaches by the sheer look of it. ;)

Ah, assembler isn't that much harder than C, despite what it looks like (hence the old joke that C is "all the power and flexibility of assembler, with all the readability of assembler" Wink) Z80 ASM isn't quite as amazingly nice as, say, 68k ASM, but it's still quite workable (especially compared to other chips of its time, like the 6502.)

Anyway, I might just take a stab at a quick tutorial for screen 2/4. Give me something to work on during all my downtime at work Wink

Cool. Well, I do know there are some library files with MSX platform-specific ASM code for doing things like VDP control and interpreting external (keyboard/joystick) input. I guess that saves a lot of work either way. Smile
