After a while I have:

* Scroll
* Bible
* Robe
* Lamp
* Hourglass
* Sword
* Statue (?)
* Potion (when lucky)
* Full Magic
* Almost full Karma (gained by uncursing monsters)

...I had to go to Heaven some times to get most of this stuff and to gain MP and Karma.
Every time I used the Potion to become mortal again and leave Heaven.
Now, I find that the priest in the last church will not give you infinite Potions.
Should there be some other item which gets you out of Heaven?
Or should I just be less wasteful with Potions?

Without the Sword and the Statue, I can already get past the dungeon behind the throne room with the snails in Azorba Kingdom.
There's the Princess, locked, and after a maze with ladders there's a room with the pigs and some kind of horned skull made of rocks.

Also, didn't manage to free the Fairy, get to Hell alive or enter the tunnel past the guy underground next to the water in Romancia.
...so I guess I'm stuck. Smile

AFAIK: less wasteful with potions! You should basically never use them to get life back. Only use them to become mortal again and to gain karma by curing people and/ or 'things'. There is no other way of becoming mortal again besides using the potion. So look after that. Do note that aside from the church you can also get the potion from a seller in the dungeon below Azorba Kingdom's castle. But it is fairly expensive and you also cannot squander your money too much.

The sword you get almost at the end of the game so you needn't use it at this point. If you want I can tell you what it does, but that is fairly obvious once you get it. What item do you refer to as the statue? Perhaps I can tell then what it's for and at what stage you are in the game.

The room with the horned skull made out of rocks is a room you DON'T want to be in. You can leave it from the upper right corner but in most cases you need some magic to temporarily fly to get out of there (unless you are a master at double jumping in that game...) And also magic isn't something you have tons of just lying around. You need to get past that whole maze to get to the final area of the game. And there are some nice (or not so nice) puzzles waiting for you there Smile

Saying that you have gotten past the princess must mean at least that you got to save her and are in the second part of the game...

There are two fairies: One in Azorba and one in Romancia. Which one you didn't manage to free?
I'm guessing at least the one in Romancia: you need to solve the puzzle of the lake to get to her. Drive down the wooden poles in the bottom of the lake in a certain sequence. There are only 8 combinations so try them out yourself otherwise I'll be spoiling the whole puzzle Smile (sidenote: the sequence is different from the Famicom's). After solving the puzzle go to the sage next to the lake and then you should be able to go past the wall/ door at the bottom of the lake to find a fairy...

And well yeah you can get stuck in the game at several points, most of them involving having no more potions. So try to do get as far as you think you still can go, but if you need to be in heaven still (and I know you eventually have to) you at least have to start over after you can no longer do anything any more unless you have enough gold. for now you can stall by converting your karma for gold (second floor in red house in Romancia) and then finding the potion seller in the dungeon beneath Azorba Castle. Hope you aren't fully stuck yet but I never got to finish the game when I had no more potions at the church anymore. Possibly it might be done, but never tried it.

Hope this helps and if not feel free to ask again...

WOW, thanks a lot, Randam! Big smile

The 'statue' is some kind of vase-like thing with 2 bird-wings.

Questions if I may:

* how to drive down the wooden poles?
* what to do to free the Fairy in Azorba?
* I can kill angels with the Sword but I don't think that's the right thing to do, is it? Wink
* Should I ever go to Hell?

You drive down the wooden poles by swimming over them and then push them down.
The fairy in Azorba I believe you need to free when the scroll is totally uncursed (4 times!) or at least partly uncursed... You don't need to do this. After doing it you just are able to use the Bible.
Killing angels is not the right thing to do no. I do wonder what sword you are talking about. If you are talking about the dragon slayer sword which you get in the last part of the Lava Castle, I am wondering why we are having this coversation. That is very much near the final boss... If you are talking about another sword, could you indicate what you mean or where you got it. Because aside from the swords you get from the king and the one at the end I don't think there are any more swords...

You are never supposed to go to hell, but it is not your doom if you do once or twice. If you are good at double jumping it shouldn't even cost you magic. But I need more practice in Romancia and in the meanwhile I use magic to get out. There is one point where you very easily get to the hell screen because it is part of a puzzle you need to solve. But AFAIK there is nothing benefitial in either of the hell chambers.

You should go to the lava castle though (where ou already must have been if you have the dragonslayer sword), and along the way if you don't know the way you are sure to end up in hell a couple of times without a map or good instructions.

The vase thing with two bird wings I thought of as a staff (I had the Fray staff in mind). With that item you can fly but it costs you magic. Great for impossible jumps and a necessary item.

Do note that in Romancia not everything you can do you need to do. Some items you can't take with you since you only get to take 7 different items with you and there are more. also you don't need to heal everyone with the potion just enough to meet requirements so you can progress.

And yeah that means you can get stuck. I got stuck once with just 1 potion too few to finish the game... Crying

.

Well, here's one of my many, many 'points of no return' (due to Potion waste);

* click on the picture to enlarge *

img2.imageshack.us/img2/5194/romanciadragonslayerjr0.png

...The stuff at the far right in the item list; I really thought it was a sword, guess I'm mistaking. :)
That one item on the 2nd row, I meant with the 'statue'. Should be the Staff, then. How I do that?

Also, didn't find any human in the dungeon beneath Azorba Castle.

...are the anti-social people in Romancia and Azorba, the ones * not talking to you, ignoring you, lalala * any good later on?
Can you ever speak to the king with the snails in Azorba?

Moreover, don't have a clue about uncursing the scroll. 4 times, you say? AFAIK I didn't even do it 1 time.

About Hell, I thought it was the pit in Azorba you normally'd have to jump over but with the robe, I can survive a lot of screens down. ;)

What is the Lava Castle exactly? I don't think ever to have went there.

Randam, if both of us have finished this game, why not make a walkthrough or how-to-play together? :D
...Then we can insist on an English translation. :RNFF:
This game has SO many secrets!

Oh, you are not as far in the game as I though. Must have been because you were talking about Hell and a sword.

The item on the far right is a rod. That is something you could have read in the texts as well, seeing it being one of the items with an English name. It's purpose: killing creatures in the screen at the cost of one magic and karma.
Flying is just select the item and walk up into the air. Whether it's a staff or a statue I don't know for sure. The Japanese only refers to it as 'this'. Have to look in the manual what it actually is...

The people not talking to you in Romancia don't talk to you unless you have a specific items. And what people not talking to you in Azorba are you referring to. IIRC everybody talks to you or potentially talks to you...
Yeah you can talk to the king with the snails in Azorba. I think you can even now, but you still don't meet the requirement to go on atm if you do.

Uncursing the scroll: start off with the guy (some sage or something) next to lake in Romancia. He uncurses it the first time. Watch that text and walk about after that. Three other people should give that exact same text and then it's uncursed.

The pit in Azorba is just that: a pit/ chasm filled with lava. You also found out one of the benefits of the robe by doing this. But to my knowledge this is a bottomless pit... Just jump over.

Lava Castle: I spoke ahead of myself. Since I thought you had the sword I thought you went there. But you're a long way from there. You haven't saved the princess yet and before that you can't go to the Lava Castle.

Regarding the walkthrough: yeah it is really necessary to have one since even with the english translation you can easily get stuck at certain points in the game. I already made one for the prince scenario which needs some rewriting here and there. The princess scenario walkthrough (playing with the princess) I haven't made yet so any help there might come in handy...
Regarding the English translation... The prince scenario has already been translated (rough version) and the princess scenario is underway.

Randam, thanks again.
I don't know thich version you are talking about; I don't get English texts, I'm playing the original version.

And yes, I thought the pit was actually the gate to Hell.
Seems as I didn't get to a lot of locations yet; probably doing things in the wrong order.
Is your walkthrough already online?

Well the item Rod is in english, just as Lamp and perhaps one or 2 others...

You did quite well for the first try. You got quite some karma already and much of the items you already can get. So well done! If you weren't in heaven now without potions you could probably even make to save the princess with a little luck.. Perhaps the potions even get replenished at the church after saving the princess though I haven't tried that...

What some people refer to as hell is the screen with the horned skull made of rocks. There are a couple of those...
And the fun thing in Romancia is that it is partly non-lineair. You don't have to do a,b,c,d and e in a specific order to accomplish f. You have some requirements but how you meet those is up to you. But never end up in heaven without a potion...

No the walkthrough isn't online already. And I think that it will spoil some of the fun for the translation. Or don't you think so? Anyway will at least put it up online then with a mayor spoiler alert.

Sorry for necrobumping, but I would love it if you could put the guide online (if it's not already online).

I'm stuck in the part where I go to rescue the princess. I stand outside her cell and she says something in Japanese. There are a lot of dragon heads flying around. I kill a bunch of them but they don't seem to run out.
I have a scroll, key that looks like a flower, a bible, a thing that makes me fly and a crystal ball that shows me the map. I talked to a fairy that's in a cave below the water lake with the poles and I went to heaven too. I had a full set of karma and traded it for money.

Anything else I should have done to rescue the princess?

Soon it will be...

Anyways, you probably forgot to completely remove the curse from the scroll. Most likely you forgot to go to the old man in the cave to the right of the lake after you got the scroll. That's all you need to do to finish the first part.

Who are the people I have to talk to have it uncursed? Are they all in the first town?
