Hey,

I would like to use the Mega Flash but my MSX doesn't have FDDs. Is there anyway to load some mega rom data into the cartridge without FDD? I really want to play some SCC games.

Technically it's possible to flash the cartridge by loading the data via cassette port - I did that with MicroWAVer to flash 512K bios to my MMC/SD cardridge.
Practically it's not easy and someone should program some converter.

jang, just wondering: did you have a way to do this in mind?

Hi Manuel,

Nope. the FDD and floppy disk already became hard-to-find media around our general computing environment. I know some people are still using them for their MSX, but I have no way to access them right now. Even if I had FDD in my MSX, I don't know how to copy some rom files in my PC desktop into 2DD floppies.

Some Korean users invented the MMC/SD cartridge and that's what I was exactly looking for, but I do not know where I can get this. I think the mega flash is a good alternative for SCC gaming, but it requires using FDD. That's my dilemma. Sad

Thanks

It would've been nice if such a flashcart could be filled from pc using USB.

Hi marlon-B, do you mean that you are developing some kind of a flashcart which is able to download some files from pc thru usb? that is awesome!

I am really looking forward to using yours!

yes. I am. is built into base-module
but it will not be available until beginning of next year. still have to do some thorough tests.
So hope you can wait that long.

My idea was to compile your source on your PC and send it directly to your MSX. (reset if ROM) and run.
I was also investigating the possibility of hardware-debugging but this would mean opening-up your MSX so I let it go(for now)

but I must be honest, SCC will not be activated right away. but I am embedding a 12-bit dac connected to the soundin-pin and scc-addressing so it will be possible.
But I have too little info about SCC(+) to implement it right away will need more time to study it.

Isn't Nowind already capable of that?

Also, there's the CF interface, the older brother of the MMC/SD cart. And that one is still available AFAIK (check with Sunrise on this forum).

I did not know that.

playsonic has FPGA emulated SCC-I also...

@janghang: how are your soldering skills? there are some schematics on the web of Yeongman Seo/Sinfox how to build a MMC/SD device from a SCC cartridge....
