Having been a CPC person, and not really knowing the history of MSX software I was wondering if there has ever been a game creation tool that required no programming knowledge like SEUCK on the C64 or The Game Factory for creating 2d shooter or platformers? There were never any on the CPC that I recall, but quite a few on the Speccy.

I understand that in tile mode and given the sprite limitations of the MSX1 its probably not easy or even worthwhile. But a PC based game creation tool for gfx9000 sounds like a very cool project to me. I was pondering this for symstudio and running under symbos, but the cross platform aspirations might make this less appealing (in a not trying to make it work on the lowest common demoninator system way)

Well, there was some Japanese kit which allowed you to make an MSX2 RPG...
Don't remember the name though.

For an example of Dante usage, go here and click 'CIPHER' in the menu bar.

Oh yeah, Dante.

And there was also GameBuilder and another (Dutch?) thing...

I used to have also a game creator for the MSX1... I don't remember a lot about it, but I remember perfectly that it used to display a devil holding a paper during the loading screen.

There is a shotem up editor. Imanok used it for Gradius Legend.

Yeah, you can make Twinkle Star-like games with it, right?

AFAIK, there're at least three SEUCKs on MSX: Quicksilva's Games Designer (MSX1), Yoshida Kensetsu (MSX2) and Yoshida Konzern (MSX2). Those Yoshida editors were used to make the above commented games (Gradius Legend or Twinkle Star).

About platforms games editors, I've no idea about it; but I believe that there's none out there...

G.A.M.E. - Game and Music Editor. Dutch, also for MSX1, I think.
