History has proven that 'we' can have it! I mean:

Since then, no games like this, as far as I know, were developed for MSX1.

My question is: why not?
I'm more like the MSX2/SCREEN 5 kind of guy myself, but if I could program just a little bit for SCREEN 1/SCREEN 2, I would at least have tried. :)
But I'm not talking about MSX2, ofcourse I know Feedback, and so do you because you visit YouTube now and then to check if a game really exists, don't you? :P

No, I mean really MSX1.
Most of the physical landscape objects are ASCII tiles, anyway.
Play a little bit with HW sprites, and you can make it look great! ;)

Is there a reason this type of oldschool game making seems (IMHO) abandoned?

We've had several issues of MSXdev already, but still...

P.S.

Ofcourse I think that everyone who worked at Sega back then should at least receive a daily

(Slightly-Less-Safe-For-Work-Version-Here)

for never porting Space Harrier to MSX.
Space Harrier!!! The cunts.
Port it, or sell it to every stupid 8-bit system on the planet except to MSX.

But hey, maybe that's just me.

......

MSX like also a decent pseudo 3d formula one game (Hyper Rally does not count)
with clever use of sprites and tile in sc2 the result could be very good....

Don't forget Red Zone... Considering it's age, it is very good looking game...

That racegame that took 20+ minutes to load I described in my introduction in the who=who section was 3d if I recall correctly, though I am not sure, and I forgot the name.

while looking for it I found a few race games that are in 3d

Speedboat Racer http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/3020
TT Racer http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/3040
Formula 1 Simulator http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/2511

A flight sim
F16 Fighting Falcon http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/392
a few more

Zexas

Zexas Limited

http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/533

I think Zexas Limited had colourful enemies. :) And wonderful strange noise which was caused by enemy spaceships. :)
Zexas games have incoming starfield, I am not sure if it had some sort of 3d toward the player scrolling landscape too in some stage.

Zoom 909

http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/521

If I am not wrong, this game stages were originally the part of Buck Rogers arcade.

Kung-Fu Master (Mass Tael Ltd.)

http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/151

In first stage you can run towards the horizon and back. :)

Coaster Race

http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/748

...though this is not the best example in MSX gaming.....
