ren: use blueMSX ore ruMSX that has support for this kind of protection (the der file must be in the same directory as the DSK file). No need of a DMK file !

Interesting.. So it's seems to be an original disk (but not official?) from the Freesoft MSX Club, Italy?

Yes, I was a member of it. The disk I have is not the original one and I don't know if it's official or translated by another member.

@mars: thanks, wasn't aware of that, but read up a little..

Anyway (something for another discussion) the thing I'm most interested about is creating faithful dumps (insofar that's possible) for preservation (and can also be faithfully restored back onto a real floppy). Not sure if .dsk + .der fits the bill (for most disks), but, as I said, something for another discussion.. Wink Thanks for the pointer! & wanderlust: thanks for dumping!

I (we?) know very little about the Italian MSX scene, so interesting to come across this Italian/English Zoo 'bootleg' (?).. Wink

Perhaps you can dump it to .dmk. I'm not familiar with that, but @Manuel (who's also following this (hopefully Wink)) could help I guess Smile

(I was thinking about opening a new thread on s/w preservation anyway, so a proper dump would be great Smile)

DSK+DER can be converted to DMK. Let me know if you need that.

Wanderlust, thanks for sharing.

Well now we have an English version homemade and a English version by Freesoft. Smile

I quickly compared the two versions, all files with the .RFF extension are same.
Of course ZOO.RPG is different and, the ZOO.NAM & ZOO.SCR files as well as a small basic program have been added.

The copy protection is easy to remove with one of these two methods:

  1. The method from H.R.B.: Replace 02 by 05 at 0E78h and C0 by A0 at 0E7Ah in the ZOO.PRG file
  2. My method: Replace CAh by C9h at 0EE9h in the ZOO.PRG file

So here's the latest update: Zoo translation.zip

I only replaced SHELL by CAP but I include also all versions with the crack by H.R.B. in the zip.

Enjoy!

WITH <object>, NO WAY <subject> [ WON'T CLOSE. | WON'T OPEN. ]

Sorry, but that's still (very) crooked English, then e.g. option #1 (see page 22) is a better option still..

I'm not sure if using WITH now makes it easier, especially if the middle part can't be extended?

What would be correct (and that's how it is in wanderlust's English version btw Wink):

WITH <object> YOU WON'T GET <subject> [ CLOSED. | OPENED. ]

Can you do the above? Otherwise we should pick another solution.
(I figure it's better to communicate first before making changes already Wink)

@tfh: not before the above is fixed I reckon.. (TheKid already published this earlier as being the finished thing btw(?) (though he was ready to ship 2 weeks ago already.. Tongue) (patience, patience..))

@tfh: you might want to run an European MSX2 (PAL/50 Hz)?
