Correct! Even after all those years, no one ever finished the maps of Gangbare Goemon! It's the only MSX game without full maps... (yes, they will be missing in my book as well).

Ganbare Goemon is indeed big: 4 endings, 49 levels (and no, there is no repetition after level 7 unlike with the Famicom version). And the castles themselves in each 7th level are a nightmare by themselves to get through. For the translation I had to make schematic maps to get through those levels as to not get lost.

In the later levels it is also hard to make a fitting map sometimes since some of the rooms seem to lie over each other (solution make some screens not directly fit vertically but with a gap in between).

@Randam can you please publish your maps? The last level is a complete nightmare and the existing map on MSX Solutions seems to be completely off... Sad

I did find out how to jump onto stones vertically: from pressing nothing, press down, right and jump button at the same time to jump downwards onto stones. For upwards, press up, right and jump.

I finished it many times during the translation without a map. But I don't think I will embark on a journey to finish it again. Those levels still give me nightmares...

Technically we can dump the maps from the ROM.

How many loops are there? Randam says 49 levels, does that imply 7 loops?

Seems so. Looks like this walkthrough shows you the way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sItWZpE7LKY

It is a nice game, but yeah it is really long. And especially the palaces are a pain. I have put the schematic maps of the castles on https://msxtranslations.com/goemon.php

Maybe that will encourage some people to finish the game.
