It always bothered me that these areas were not part of the map in Guardic. Especially because there is the weird exit below area 65 that suggests that's where you'd be coming from. I couldn't find any mention of this on the internet, so I decided to do a search. Some disassembly and testing later, I have finally found them!

They are indeed below area 65, in a straight line, with one empty area between them (just like area 37, 38 and 39). Which means the entrance to them is between the exits from areas 61 and 84. And it is. Sometimes. Once every 256 times, to be exact.

There is a counter that is incremented every time you wrap around the world. It starts at 255 and immediately wraps before entering area 1. So the first time you travel through the map, it is 0. The next time it is 1, then 2, etc. The entrance to area 62 is only there when this counter is 0. Which means you have to go there immediately or it won't be there (well, you could also wrap 256 times first, but I wouldn't recommend it. :-P)

If you don't want to use a map: take the rightmost exit every time and you'll get there.

So, um, a great discovery, but why did they go to this trouble to hide these 3 areas? Is there something special about them? (Special weapons to be gained or something like that?)

I think the main reason was that they wanted to add an extra secret in the game. But yes, there is a prize: area 64 has more than 300 power balls in it. The only problem is that it has only one enemy, which dies very easily. So the trick is to get as much of them as possible before killing it. Taking 3 or 4 speed may help for this.

Whoa!,

Wonderful discovery, I played this game a lot in the past and found one of those screens (area64), the one 300 power balls and one enemy, but never had played again since high school.

Of course I did not check the map available again since I don´t have enough interest to play this game seriously again.

Thanks for sharing your discovery Bas, I am amazed that someone takes his time to find these things nowadays Smile

By the way everybody should play its secuel Guardic Gaiden for Famicom (in Europe & USA is named "Guardian Legend") is wonderful, one of the best games I played on NES Wink

Anyone to make a conversion for MSX? Smile

You know what makes me wonder? If there is a secret room somewhere in The Guardian Legend. A sequel to the Guardic. They have many space between rooms all around. It would be easely possible to hide it there. But I used RAM mod to walk into that areas between map tiles. And did not found anything special. But maybe it requires some condition.
I mean. it's the same company and it's a sequel. So developers might had idea to put a similar thing in there.
