Hi,

I improved a bit the speed of Herzog. The game seems a little more fluid. Slowdowns can be avoided because of the slow pace of VDP.

Yup, everything sure seems to go a bit more smoothly. Great work! Smile

Question: did you also do something about the A.I. of the enemy guard robot guy, as he seems to behave a bit more intelligent (more like I remember him to be in later levels), or do I just suck more at the game than I remember?
And how would you feel about patching this game for FM versions of the music and maybe even an English translation?

Well, that's an possibility as well.. Smile Gonna try it out, great work gdx! (And nice surprise.. Wink)

Any more details on the hack? You improved performance by reducing VDP draws (less fps) or something?

(edit: all in favor regarding John's suggestions.. Wink)

I know, right? Check out how the soundtrack sounds on PC-88
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aEXkeGdb_Q
and imagine how it could sound on MSX OPLL. Even if it's in the style of their Feedback game, so with no drum freq tuning, etcetera.

@John: good to hear some of those tunes again (Take It Easy).. Back to Square One is rather cool in FM. Hard to go back now to the MSX PSG arrangements.. Tongue (thanks Wink)

Btw: I think the soundtrack you linked to is actually from the X-1 (OPM).
(An alternative upload is here (though labeled as being PC-88 as well) (playlist format))

I only optimised the VDP access. AI may have more time to think now.

I do not intend to add the FM. About English translation I can not do it alone. If there are volunteers to help me, I can open a thread.

Is that because it's (too) difficult, or because you don't care about it?
(I believe the idea here is that John would actually create FM versions of the songs, and a hacker has to embed them, add playback routine etc. am I right?)

I never did this. A guy who has already done it will be able to do it a hundred times faster than me. In addition, I think few people can make good FM music without take with few CPU resources. The time I have earned may be lost with FM.

Volunteers for the translation?
