Jipe:
I switched several times between the slots.
The MSX always starts from the game cartridge, Regardless of the slot number.

When a cartridge contains a program in Basic, a controller, a Kanji ROM or extended instructions for Basic (Non-exhaustive list). It boots and installs the cartridge content and continues to next cartridge. It must have given you the impression that it is sometimes different but the MSX boots always in order of the lower slot to the highest.

Indeed the question is a bit upside down... It should be "How to prevent booting from a specific slot?"

- When you insert game cartridge to slot 1 and MFR to slot 2 the computer will ignore MFR and start the game.
- When you insert MFR to slot 1 and game to slot 2 the computer will initialize MFR and then start the game.

Options that I have used in the past to solve this problem are:
- Remove the game cartridge from computer
- Flash a software that skips the slot 2 boot to MFR in slot 1
- Update BIOS so that it has option to skip the execution of software in given slot.
- Build a switch that disables the ROM to the cartridge
- Build a switch that disables the slot to the computer
- Use a slot expander that has a switch to disable the slot when needed.
- Build extension cable that has a switch to disable the ROM. (Ok, this one I have not used in real life)
- Insert cartridge when computer has been already booted (Note: Dangerous to your cartridge & computer hardware!!!)
