Hey guys,

I have an issue installing SymboOS in my BlueMSX emulator. When I type RUN "SYMSETUP.COM" I get an error message "Direct statement in file" and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

AAH! So MSX-BASIC is not MSX-DOS! THAT IS HOT!

As for my machine configuration...basic 128 KB/128 KB MSX configuration in blueMSX. I have not found in the interface of the BlueMSX to increase RAM size. BUT MSX-DOS...eh?

THAT IS HOT!! THAT IS HOT! MSX have a DOS...- fans face - heheh Big smile

OK serious question....IF I GET A REAL MSX COMPUTER MSX 2 and get a hard drive for it...can I install symbOS on it directly without needing special video card and I can listen to mp3 on it and watch videos on it??

I am craving - wipes mouth - FOR......I am having fetish..craving now..like heroine for installing SymboOS on that wavy MSX 2 computer....- hands shaking -

foody,

Any MSX do not have enough power in its CPU (and for most MSXs, no PCM output either, making it even harder to achieve this) to decode MP3's fast enough to play. You need specific hardware for that, like GR8NET, MP3MSX or SE-ONE, and according to the SymbOS documentation at this moment GR8NET is used only for network, so leaving only MP3MSX or SE-ONE as options for that.

Can I combine CR8Net and SE-ONE together? Can they fit and work on keyboard MSX?

If you have two free slots, yes... If you plan on getting a gr8net, you could ask Eugeny (the author of it) on the possibility of having a mp3 driver for SymbOS... Maybe you can do it with only the gr8net and not need another cartridge..

Heheh I would like that. If he can do it this way the free slot will be used for my disk drive heheh!!

First in shopping list:

A) Get MSX 2 Sanyo Wavy
B) Get external disk drive with cartridge slot
C) Get cartridge for external hard drive (IDE)
D) Install symboOS

Flip get that cartridge SD thing where I can run ROM images into the MSX 2 computer.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

AS USUAL THE RETRO COMMUNITY IS MONEY HUGGER HAHAHAHA!!

The mega/mapper SD is a floppy / HD replacement, unless you have unique files stored in floppy disks, I would recommend that you use just the SD Mapper instead of getting a floppy/floppy interface/hd/HD interface... It is supported by SymbOS as well... Just do your research, watch videos, read descriptions and then make your wishlist, otherwise you'll spend a small fortune and end up not using much of what you buy...

Thank you for your help! You have done more than needed. I will do that. I will buy just the mega/mapper sd instead and have that as my floppy/HD replacement.

First is saving money to buy the wavy MSX 2+!

Be aware that most msx2+ systems only have 64k mem. If you buy a GR8NET you will have one device which expand your machine with memory, network and hard drive. The GR8NET is than the perfect device and you wil be able to boot SymbOS. For MP3 i would suggest a SE-ONE for SymbOS. So than you need a machine with 2 slots. One for mp3 and one for GR8NET.

And ... For SymbOS a need for a mouse is very recommended!
