Dear MSX friends,

After 30 years, I have bought me again three MSX2 computers and one MSX1 :-)

I see at ebay a lot of MSX roms for sale. I have a question about the language. I understand that Japanse stays Japanese, but what if you have a French rom in the French language, do they stay in French when I play them in a Dutch MSX computer or do they change into English?

Greetings,

Marco

It depends on the ROM/Software and the programmer. But i think most will be in the original language. But some of those games are looking to the MSX of your region.. if i'm correct some Konami games are like this. I'm not the expert in games.. but most konami games translated .. or using a patch. SD snatcher is an example of that. Some time ago a good translation game out which makes the game so cool! For a small amount you can buy such upgrade. (But then you need a flashrom to play the game) Be aware that on ebay the prices are sky high and not realistic most of the time. If you want to play the original you probably end up with the original language Big smile

Scubaduiker: I think only some Konami games do this for Japanese and English.

Yes, it is safe to expect that the language doesn't change. Multilingual games are quite rare and even in those cases you can select the language from menu or you need different version of the game in order to change the language. Because of historical reasons that go way beyond our lifetime I would find it very unlikely that any French ROM would suddenly select English messages instead... I think the automatic language selection is indeed limited to some Konami's games that use regional settings to select between Japanese / English. "Wrong language" between European computers is not a big deal if you can survive typing with the keyboard layout you have. With Japanese computers you are more likely to run into problems with character set that is not able to display the correct fonts in screen.
