If I'm not completely wrong, also some version of "Phillips Video Graphics" had support for animations... How ever it was so complex to use that I newer quite figured it out.

If I would be you, I would draw the animation frames on DD.graphics to a screen and use BASIC for animating the stuff... Bad thing is that you practically need to copy the coordinate information from graphics program using pen & paper type of transfer method, but making & adjusting of the animation is much more fun & versatile than on any animation program. You can also much more easily share your animations to other users.

DD-graphics also supports saving custom size animation frames that you can load in BASIC with COPY-command, but note that in this case color palette is not saved with the frame picture and you need to think about how you order your VRAM when you load the frames. Naturally both methods can be also mixed.

This may sound like complex, but you don't really have to be much of a programmer to make your first animations...
I give an example that you can use to get started... This displays 2 frame animation:

[code]
10 SCREEN 5 ' Select 16 color mode (256x212) with 4 pages.
20 SET PAGE 0,1 ' Set defaults: Display page 0 (currently empty), draw page 1 (Contains random stuff)
30 BLOAD"MYPIC.GE5",S ' Load animation frames created with DD-graphics to page 1
40 COLOR = RESTORE ' Use the color palette that was used in DD-graphics.
50 COPY (0,0)-STEP(100,100),1 to (78,56),0 ' Copy 100x100 pixel box from upper left corner on page 1 to middle of screen page 0
60 TIME=0:FOR I=0 to 30:I=TIME:NEXT I ' Wait 0.5 seconds (30 draws on 60Hz display)
70 COPY (100,0)-STEP(100,100),1 to (78,56),0 ' Copy 100x100 pixel box from right of 1st frame to middle of screen page 0
80 TIME=0:FOR I=0 to 30:I=TIME:NEXT I ' Wait 0.5 seconds again
90 GOTO 50 ' Repeat animation from first frame
{/code]
