MSX GAMES AT TURBO SPEED are REALLY ENJOYABLE

I just want share some of my discoveries digging the vast MSX Games Library some are really enjoyable at turbo speed specially if you play it on real hardware.

for instance COMMANDO (1987) (ASCII) --> This Youtube Video is Running on Real Turbo R at Turbo Speed and as you see the PSG AUDIO is very pleasant to hear. I Think it is more enjoyable playing on real Turbo R than Emulation where you can overclock the Main CPU but all the Audio get screw (high PITCH) that not happen when you deal with real hardware in some cases.

Most of the games are really enjoyable with Zemmix turbo mode. In some cases like Fray you get more speed, but in other situations like Aleste, you simply remove all slowdowns. Also, the modern patches get a lot of benefits, modern patches games like Gradius Enhanced are player without any slowdown and having double SCC.

Well, I've been a long time since I was testing AKIN (MSX2 GAME) trying to Install the game in my HDD but without luck so Yesterday I start searching the web again when finally found it, thanks to TFH. I remember hear about second edition long time ago but never get it. For my surprise this 2nd Edition seems to fix the problem when I try to Install the game in the MSX2 + MSXDOS2(Not NEXTOR) + HDD/CF this setup was tested on real machine with MegaSCSI(MSXDOS220) and MMCSDver3(MSXDOS220) also Emulation works great with OpenMSX015/BlueMSXver283 + Sunrise IDE + 16MB HDD IMAGE.

Nowadays we use NEXTOR (MFR,GR8NET,SD512,etc) I tried to install this second edition on HDD/CF/SDCARD but without success. I don't know the problem yet so I decided just focus on the devices it works fine because the main differences are the HDD speed access. After play it couples times in my Turbo R I start notice the Turbo Led was off every time I start the game so I decided to check the Game Program and make a simple hack avoiding it to set always Z80 mode. I did it now I understand why they did that because the Main Game runs fine the PSG seems ok also but the main reason was FM Music it get broke all the time.

But then I remembered I have GR8NET this really awesome Hardware from Eugeny Brychkov have FM also runs fine at 7mhz (Phillips NMS8280) so we need to try and for my surprise the game play the FM music from both devices at the same time but the FM from GR8NET hear very good but not from the Turbo R. at this time we have 2 options: 1st Use the Audio Output from GR8NET and mimic the built in PSG(GR8NET PSG at 0xA0) or 2nd Install a switch on the back of my beloved Turbo R and disable the Built in FM (Cut pin17 Y2413) at the end finally I tried both options but I like the 2nd more.
