Am I allowed to add the game to the MSX section of www.File-Hunter.com?

Yes, this weekend I've been improving the MSX ROM-loader for SVI and I've used these latest products like this one, Slime Center and Tales of Popolon as test case... I'm happy to notice that all these seem to work fine as well...

The process of porting game on the fly from binary to another platform is indeed quite a complex as it is not enough just to support MSX-BIOS routines, separate code from data and change the I/O ports... There are also things like different memory handling and peripherals such as keyboard, joystick etc. that also attach to the system using different methods. Generally where MSX uses one I/O port for reading & writing, SVI uses two etc. Therefore my "self aware, self modifying artificial intelligence" actually does the porting in multiple passes and partly during game execution time.

I'm happy to hear that, too. I could not imagine that it was working like that. It is great that the execution speed is also the same as MSX.

Well, it depends... When we think about VDP stuff that is most time critical, it is many times enough just to change the I/O ports. Ok, if there is stuff like OUTI or similar used then the code will slow down during first execution time or two before the code finds a proper way to patch the routine, but generally in the end patching can be done without slowing down the end result. On the other hand there are things like reading a SPACE-key... On MSX this is typically done by selecting a keyboard row, reading it and masking out the bit we need. Emulating it means that you have to trigger MSX PPI emulation each time that reads the 8 "random" keys from "here and there" and then constructs MSX compatible keyboard row out of the results. This can easily be 100 times slower. Luckily games usually sync to VDP frame and therefore there is usually some free time for these kind of things. Things like reading keyboard happen also relatively rarely.

This game is a lot of fun! it has that 'atari' kind of feel, of a simple idea, but well implemented and addictive!
The bonus stage is a nice touch!

Of all the 'Birds throwing chairs at crabs' games I've played this is definitely the best!
