If You use BlueMSX for loading ROM you can see the mapper , for Starquake it's a ASCII 16 Big smile

Yep! Someone already told me about this evil machine and I'll add it to my testing phase. As of now, rocket roger doesn't work with it, so I'll check what should I fix.

Thanks!

Yes, I still have nightmares about this machine. I was quite happy when I replaced it with a Sony HB-F700P

You sold the 500 to a next victim? ;-)

Not really... The machine broke down and that's when I decided to get a 700 (with 2+ and fast disk rom). I've used the 500 as a huge external drive stacked on the 700 for some time, but threw it away at some point.

I am still a happy HB-F500P owner, and it is still on active duty.. Wink
Used to boot it with a special selfwritten HB-F500P boot disk to initialize a HBM-512 memory expansion in slot 3. Most games would run then.

Today it runs nicely with a carnivore2

"Colony" released as a non megarom .rom file (just 24 KB of data which fit inside a 32 KB .rom file!)

Note: As it happens with the typical UK RAM games (this is one of them), I tried my best to allow LoadROM, ExceROM or ODO to run/boot this game, but again, no luck: Its RAM routines need at least 48 KB's of free RAM to propetly work.

OTOH, Using "SofaRUN"/"GR8NET CALL NetBrowse"/"Physically burning the .rom file into an actual EEPROM IC" methods will all flawlessly work.

Enjoy!

Most tape or disk games converted to Rom require a device like MegaRAM, MegaFlashRom or MegaSRAM to work because they are not executed from the ROM. EEPROM IC is another solution.

Yep, but with this game I think that I could have achieved something using tricky programming, even for "bare memory MSX's", specially after studying its RAM blitting routines...
Maybe I'll try something in the future (just as a personal challenge, I'm learning TONS of stuff and it's mainly fun).

Great work Friguron!
Just to let you know, so you don't work on the same, JAM has recently converted Donkey Kong (c) Ocean to non-mapper rom.
He managed to fit the game, including the loading screen, into 32k rom.
It also works fine from RAM, using well known rom loaders.
