Hello all!
I'm trying to look for programs related to MIDI to use with my MSX2+ and the Music Module.
I would like to record and play. For sequencing I have discovered C-Qensr and works like a charm.
Is there any other program to deal with MIDI world for the 2+?

And one important thing: it would be interesting that the programs work out with flash cartridges like Padial's or Pazos', because I have hundreds of midi files and C-Quencer do not read files when running from Padial's cartridge. And it is very annoying to write lot of files in 3,5 disks...

Thank you very much!

meteor's kiss might work, wasn't there a fac soundtracker for midi? Meridian.

Many of the other midi programs/ games I can think of are with msx midi or midi saurus...

It is the first time I heard about meteorite kiss! I think that moonlight saga also used midi... But maybe not music module compatible as you say. But I'm more interested in listening and creating midi files. I will check Meridian and I will tell you something. Thank you!!

Hi selios,

I don’t know about sequencers, but there are a few synthesizers which support Philips MIDI, please check out Synthesix and MSXSynth. Synthesix is my own product which is under development, currently it is still a bit limited in functionality and supports SCC only, but development is ongoing and more features will be added in the future.

Some stuff was made in the past by FAC... Soundtracker pro had some MIDI'ish implementations and there was this MIDI file handler (if I remember the title correctly) which could play MID files in basic... Used it in Illusions... Don't ask me how it works... Haven't touched it since the release of that disk almost 20 years ago. Iirc the stuff was recorded using c-quencr...
All the above support Philips Music Module and FAC MIDI Interface (the latter is a rarity)

Then there was MIDI Blaster which should be able to play Moonblaster 1.4 music through a MIDI interface. Dunno which one. Don't even know if it got any further than a preview in a dutch MSX magazine...

WORP3 makes MIDI-PAC which plays everything that's MSX-Music through MIDI. He released a MID player for it as well...

One of the coders of Near Dark once made a dirty hack on MBWAVE which doesn't support Moonsound but MSX-MIDI on a turbo R and Philips Music Module on any lower MSX... It's a funny thing...

Haven't tried this yet...

Also how could I forget, Meridian is a MIDI tracker primarily (and MoonSound OPL4 tracker second), I believe it works with Philips MIDI as well.

Grauw, I have tested your synth program. It is really nice to play the synth's keyboard and make SCC music, but I'm a bit lost with the interface. If you would be able to make some presets just for lazy people, would be great!
By the way, Meridian 3.0 freezes when trying to play a midi file... Sad

It's on the to-do list Smile. I should also really make a little walkthrough video showing some sound experiments... Currently there is only a help text in the readme.

Additionally I want to add help texts so you can easily see what a input or output does. Also once I add the ability to add/remove modules (doh!) so that you can start with a simple 2-module patch and build up from there, and the ability to combine modules in groups... Those are some of the things I hope will improve the workflow.

Maybe you would like to test this single cable plus a couple of tools with a very good result. Published on MSX-FAN Magazine (10/1994 issue).
