Many thanks for creating the Aleste 2 patch. I can confirm that it works. I'm so happy I asked about it now Smile. Finally I'm able to play it without physical disks.

Maybe the next SofaRom release will work with FlashJacks? Is a very nice hardware and should be fantastic if you support it!
FROM -> Rom loader
FDISK -> DSK loader

BTW to show long file names (DI.COM) is a excellent feature to implement Wink

You can do that by changing association in the .INI file, that process should be described in the documentation. The drawback is that you won't benefit from the SofaROM specific options (game master, joymega, PSG to SCC, etc...). But you can still simply launch a ROM.

Also, SofaRunIt and the disk images do not rely on any specifc hardware, so that should work on Flashjacks (or you can also associate .DSK with FDISK if you do not like SofaRunIt).

Yeah, my plan is more to wait for Nextor to support it (I even think I'd maybe first try to mod Nextor instead of doing that only for SofaRun). Anyway, waiting for that, the ZIP file support offers a good working alternative

Have to try then, if the ROM can be launched is ok even without special SofaROM capabilities, is not perfect but are good news for me to know is so easy to change it, thank you Louthrax!
The new FDisk has some nice features (like running at R800 and stuff) by itself so I'll do some test also.

Hello, Louthrax.

There are few things I would like to mention and ask.

First. I would say hello from all MSX users from snowiest Russia. Community is not so big but there are some people there.
I would like to appreciate the work you've done on SofaRun, SofaRom and the rest of the stuff. Before I ask the specific questions I would like to know, is there any way to support You somehow? Patreon, paypal etc. I'm pretty sure You are kinda geak who wanna share all your experience for free, but You've deserved to get some tribute and donations. And I want to support You. For example, Melancholia guys. They've done a lot and requested support, to be able to do some more stuff in the future. So, You've deserved to get some support as well.

I recently got my Yamaha MSX2 from another collector. Even I had Pentium back in 1996 (thanks to my parents), this Yamaha was the first PC I was using to write and run my first programs during programming lessons in high school.

In the same time I recently opened Kojima's world such as Snatchers. Nothing to say here. Masterpiece, period.

There are few issues I'm facing now. I managed to run all the different version of Snatchers on emulators. I got Oasis, Melancholia and Snatcher translation. But I cannot run it on real hardware. I've tried SD Snatcher and Snatcher cartridges, different patches, separated DSK files and concatenated ones. No luck. Bugs are different and it will take one more huge post to list them. I used all the tricks, isopropyle alcohol, blowing the cats, swapping the slots, different patches, etc.

Seems that I'm doing smth basically wrong. You've done a lot of work programming and documenting SofaRun but I miss some obvious explanation. I went through the forum but didn't get clear explanation saying - You should do this, this and this, to be able to run SD and Snatcher.

I'm familiar with C, Linux, Asm programming but seems that I lost something basic. Any help from Your side would be really appreciated.

Thanks and regards, Igor.

On which hardware are you trying to run the game? E.g. Melancholia SD Snatcher? Its readme file contains all info you need to run it on real hardware...

Hi Igor,

Thanks for the nice words, knowing people from different places around the world are using my tools is my main reward.

I'm not planning to setup a patreon or paypal support system, I would just need more time to work on MSX stuff, and that can't be sponsored by anyone Wink But anyway, MSX or vintage-computers related stuff (joysticks, magazines, floppy drives...) are welcomed, specially if it's local stuff.

Coming back to your problem, Project Melancholia and SD-Snatcher should definitively work with SofaRun / SofaRunIt (both versions are working here and have been reported to be working by other users). Playing the translated Project Melancholia version of SD Snatcher with SCC sounds is one of the greatest vintage gaming experience you can get Smile

Just give some details about your configuration (MSX model, flash device or HDD used, how much RAM you have, error message or crash you get, etc...), on the forum here or by PM, I'm pretty sure we'll find a solution!

Louthrax: a small bug report.

Using SofaRun 3.2 with an MFR SCC+SD, I just attempted to flash and play the recent Zanac-Ex patched ROM with FM support. This ROM works fine when flashed with opfxsd, but when launched with SofaRun it basically hangs at the text intro screen that does audio device detection and the like.

I did notice that when flashing with opfxsd, there were more "dots" than when flashing with SofaRun. So the issue might be ROM type (and size?) detection.

That's perfectSmile we have those kind of altruists. That allows the community to live and be more creative. Recently I managed to do 600 dpi scans of Snatcher SD Snatcher manuals, inserts and the rest of the stuff and contacted rderooy to be able to upload the scans to generation-msx. Also I bought Mitsume Ga Tooru which is quite rare and will update with the scans soon. Also I would like to try translation of Mitsume. So, I guess that will be kind of tribute to community from my side.

Regarding the issues I faced. Troubleshooting was not so consequent. I was trying different ways. And cannot explain the whole picture now.

I have MSX 2 Yamaha KYBT YIS 603III which is Russian edition of another Yamaha. 128 RAM ans 128 Video RAM
SunRise Drive adapter with Samsung IDE disk.
JoySNES device with 8bitdo receiver (I was trying without it)
I have SofaRun v3.2 running.
I have both SD and Snatcher original carts.
I have dumps of SD downloaded from internet and I checked them vs my dumps so they are identical. Actually I have only 1 and 3 disk dumps (2nd disk is damaged) but those dumps of 1 and 3 are identical with dumps from internet. So I assumed dump of 2nd disk is also OK. When I run disk 1 dump without disk protection it shows me the error saying that disk is not original.

I'm trying the original disks dumps with SD Snatcher cart (cleaned with isoprophyle alcohol) in different slots 1 and 2. The game stuck on the name typing. Arrows are not working neither on JoySNES neither on keyboard. So I cannot enter the name. No sound at all.

I was trying different patches.Oasis, Melancholia for SD and Snatcher carts, patch to be able to play original japanese game with Snatcher cart not SD one, original game. Glitches are different white screen, black screen, system says that I need to insert the sound cart etc.

I was trying translated Snatcher (Not SD). I managed to find how to swap the diskimages while disk is being accessed but game stuck on the 2nd disk options menu. I try to press 0,1,2 keys even F1, F2, F3 - nothing.

I was trying different options in SofaRun: Detect Sound, Memory Mapper (Yes/No) etc

No luck.

I managed to run Mitsume Ga Tooru and Contra DSK versions of games. Mitsume is working perfectly, sound is great but Contra's sound's level is low. And apparently I cannot hear some channels.

Once again I'm quite newbie in MSX stuff and missing a lot about the hardware. I read a lot about MegaFalsh, SCC, Sunrise but still there is no whole picture of the hardware and compatibility. So I guess I will get the experience soon.

First thing I would like to do when I come home - check the disk for the bad sectors.
