135 commits in the past 2 weeks…

If I keep this up, maybe I can share something relatively soon. A video, or maybe even a preview release. No promises though!

Today I demoed Synthesix at Sander’s party. It was hooked up to an CME XKey piano controller and an Arturia Beatstep pad / knobs controller with built-in sequencer. Had fun, and I got some great feedback.

Aside from playing around with the controllers and rewiring the patch in Synthesix to produce various different sounds, I also played some MIDI files on the SCC using Synthesix. I hadn’t done that before, and the results were pretty nice. Me and Jorito even hooked up a MIDI-PAC to another MSX with Synthesix, and played some Firehawk, Aleste Gaiden and Aleste 2 tunes on the SCC! :)

I aim to make the first preview release next week. It’s still far from finished and only comes with a single built-in patch for SCC sound, but there is now some limited UI to edit the sound so people can experiment with it.

But first I’ll make some small changes based on feedback, and I’ll write some documentation to explain every module and the inputs/outputs (a text file for now, eventually it will be available inside the program). Also I want to record a video to explain some of the basics and show some example sounds.

Haha, great! I got myself an Arturia Beatstep too, and already connected it to my MSX :)

Hi all,

I present to you: the first preview release of Synthesix!

Download, manual and source code here: https://bitbucket.org/grauw/synthesix

Note that this is a preview release which is mostly there so you can see the concept in action and experiment creating some sounds. Functionality is limited; e.g. you can’t add/remove modules, or load/save patches. However you can re-connect the preset patch at will and already generate some pretty neat effects.

If you’re interested, you can read the ideas document for a giant list of ideas of where I’d like to take this project.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have, and I’m really looking for suggestions and feedback.

Also if you feel like putting some Youtube videos online of some nice sounds produced with Synthesix… I’d like to see that :).
