Awesome work Grauw!

I can't wait to try it. Any support for alternate tunings?

Thanks a lot for this program and VGMPlay. I admire your work.

Just played a bit with Synthesix today and it made me wonder whether there are more Synths like this available for the MSX. After all, the MSX supports so many music music chips. It would be nice if you could for example send MIDI data from a DAW to the MIDI interface IN of the Philips Music Module or MSX MIDI IN and then let it play through the OPL4 or YM2151 (SFG). Is there already something like that or is Synthesix the only one in its kind supporting SCC?

There is msx synth. It seems to make use of the PSG, playsoniq SID, SCC and opl1 drums.

Technically, You can just use moonblaster/mb for moonsound/ ms2 etc for music module/fmpac/opl4 etc if you just open "voice menu (where you can playtest instrument using midi keyboard). I haven't tried this myself so I dont know how many notes you can play at the same time here, probably just one.

The same can be done with some yamaha software for the ym2151 i guess, perhaps that dms-II thingy.

On the SFG (YM2151) I tried to play a MIDI file from my Mac to the MIDI in of the SFG-05 after a call Musica which shows the ROM software of the SFG. Just like you are suggesting. I could hear 1 channel playing of that MIDI file. The reason is probably that the software is meant to record input from a MIDI keyboard. What I am looking for is software that acts like a MIDI module with different MSX soundchips but probably only Synthesix does something like that. From what I understood MSX Synth does not support 16 channels through MIDI IN but I'll check it out further.

Hi, nope, it is used as a mono instrument (for synth versions) or just drums, where the MIDI is used only for clock if I can recall properly. Cause lack of interest on the soft, I have no hurry to work on it.
Also, MSX is slow enough to loose MIDI data, unless you switch off the VDP interrupts, and still.... What I need is some buffered MIDI interface ^^
Anyway, any question or suggestion, feel free to ask!

No no, it works polyphonic Smile Quite nice. At least with keyboard. When I tried using my Beatstep sequencer, it fails at play anything, not sure why.

Not too familiar with MSX Synth as I don't own the chip, but receiving just channel 1 is common. All synths do this when not in poly/perform/GM mode. With mpconfig of midi-pac(2) you can set every channel to output to channel 1. Then every note played will be received (as long as the receiving synths has the same or more channels). The downside is that just one instrument can be played.

Btw if you are just interested in using the chips in a DAW, VST's of various of those chips exists, eg ym2149, opll, YM2151 etc

PSG/YM2149 https://chiptunevst.wordpress.com/2017/09/05/ymvst/
YM2151 http://www.geocities.jp/sam_kb/
YM2413/OPLL http://www.keijiro.tokyo/vst2413/
And there are more vst's online of various other opl(x) chips as well.

I've only tried an opll vst, it was a bit clunky to get working (probably because i never used the particular tracker that i downloaded for the occasion before) but i did managed to get some noise out of it.

No, they're prohibited in my town Running Naked in a Field of Flowers
Anyhoo, I should've quoted -Neo-'s SFG (YM2151) post to avoid confusion Wink
