Yeah! I use procedural generation for both the star map and for the levels. Level generation is not too complex, but the star map generation was trickier Smile

And indeed Ulysses 31 was a big inspiration!!! I even wanted to have those trident ships in the game, but didn't manage to make them good looking enough to include Smile

I might also have to adjust the difficulty. I adjusted is so that it is challenging for me to beat (but possible). However, I have played all level types 100 million times, so, it might need to be readjusted...

If you have 1Kb spare you could add speech samples as sfx. Using PSG only, you need 6 bytes per frame, i.e. 300 bytes per second (PAL): 1Kb is about 3,4 seconds of speech and the player is trivial.

Thanks! Big smile yes 2px scroll for the foreground, and stars more 1px at a time (but that's easy as it's just a single tile that rotates constantly Smile).

About speech, actually I do have that 1KB! There is currently about exactly 1KB free of space in the 48KB ROM, and I'm debating what to use it for. I could: (1) add more level patterns for adding variety to the procedural generation, (2) add 1 or 2 more weapons, (3) a game over music. And now you mention speech samples. Of course not all of them fit, but maybe 1 or 2 of the previous could fit for a future update! (probably after the competition)

Lots of options! Speech samples would be cool! Maybe for when a boss approaches, or maybe an evil laughter in the intro/main menu.

Hello, This is a great game and not so easily at last.
Thanks to you.
I am stuck with the second form of the second boss (the head with the spider legs).
I shot his eyes, his mouth, his head, his legs, the red wires behind, his teeth. Impossible to destroy him. No hit sound.
I waited a weak spot without shooting.
Any clue, please Smile

Oh! there should be a hit sound. Probably it's drowned by the bullet sounds. I'll make a note, maybe I should have some visual feedback in addition to the sound. You should hit her (Scylla) in the neck!
