Tiny Yarou is developing a new music patch wonder, this time the tool makes MSX games with PSG music plays through FM-PAC. Let´s see Nandemo OPLL in action.

I like this a lot ! Much more than SCC version... Because I'm fed up with this "All SCC thinking" on MSX !

I see a pair of things:

1.- I don't agree, I think that games like Nemesis or Twin Bee sounds far better in SCC version that using this patch.
2.- The sound effects are very buggy in almost any game.

The best part of the video is clearly when the PSG volume is increased, then you get very good versions of the music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Er...).

Good luck with the tool!

I agree, FM is not good for playing SFX.
Musics are nice if you like FM tone (personaly I prefere SCC).
Maybe it will be interesting to test PSG+SCC+FM for a big and powerfull sound Big smile

Please, don´t forget that Nemesis, Twin Bee or any other Konami game with SCC music has been made in house and not with a simple bios patch.
I agree that this awesome tool still needs some tweaks, but I like it so much.

Interesting project and nice work! At first I wondered what kind of algorhythm would be behind it, but it appears that the same hardware voice presets are being used over and over again. I hope that a next incarnation could maybe offer a bit more variation in the instruments used, but I realise that it would be tricky to code some kind of 'waveform analysation' that could recognize certain PSG use and assign a fitting FM voice to it.
Another solution could be to devise 'tailor-made' schemes, or tables, for certain games, and even individual songs, of which PSG waveform number is mimicked by which FM preset, but this would involve quite some manual work (but with a more satisfying effect).

Ofcourse it is; it was actually meant and developed for playing SFX as well. A good example of FM use for SFX would be for instance the Aleste games.
But you can't just apply FM voices to SFX which were designed for PSG and expect that it automagically would sound well.

Aleste sfx seem not be Fm but PSG.
Maybe I'm wrong.
