Note that in my video I’m using G8, which is the highest note the OPLL (and MIDI) can produce, maybe on the octave scale of TTFM it’s F#9/G9. A little under 4 octaves higher than the 440 Hz A.

This gave me some thought in the train this morning on my way to work, and I actually think I found the root of the problem. I don't think it is a bug of TTFM. B8 is highest note in TTFM but I guess thats not "high enough". I used "tone change" to make it a bit higher than B8 and now it sounds pretty good, as a hihat. Sounds like some cheap lofi fm keyboard.. pretty nice.

This is the highest value I can go before TTFM starts to "wrap around" (anything higher and it will bump back to lowest possible frequency).

I guess TTFM would need to go a bit higher to get the same sound you made in that video you've shown.
