Right, time for some offtopic talk. After wasting my so-manieth generic keyboard (Logitech K270) I'm considering whether I should catch the mechanical keyboard ride or just stick with buying a new keyboard every now and then. As I'm quite sure there are quite a few developers/heavy-keyboard users here I was wondering what you guys are using and/or would recommend.

Things that are important for me:

- No piano black/shiny crap please. Annoys the shit out of me.
- Not too noisy. So as mechanical keyboards come and go, those based on Cherry Red switches are likely candidates
- Backlight is ok, but not a necessity
- Media keys are nice, but not a necessity
- Comfortable, comfortable, comfortable. I find the Logitech K120 I currently use terrible in about every possible way one can imagine. Loud, terrible feedback, it just doesn't feel right.

For a generic replacement I've been thinking of the Logitech MK-520 although for the first time I find myself tempted to spend more money and get myself a WASD Keyboard or a Filco Majestouch 2.

Does anyone here happen to have first-hand experience with any of these keyboards? Are they really worth that much money or is it just a nerdy gadget? Any other recommendations?

I have a Filco Majestouch 2 which I think is very good. They are loud tough, so type softly Wink I have the "tactile action" version (Cherry Brown switches) (non clicky but still pretty loud when bottoming out the keys). The keys need a very light touch which for me took a couple of days of getting used to it. Its possible to type without bottoming out the keys, but I cannot seem to get the hang of that. The keys need less movement to register then your general keyboard or laptop keyboard.

The keyboard is very sturdy and the big difference for me is: no more cramped fingers at the end of the day.

I love my Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. In fact, I love it so much I have two :).

If only it had PS/2 support so I could connect it to my OCM :).

It's not a mechincal keyboard, but I can heartily recommend an Apple Keyboard. For several years now it's been my keyboard of choice, both as a programmer and a gamer. I've only had one get a defective key after two or three years and I lost one due to excessive liquid spillage.

Not too noisy, ergonomically friendly (thin and low angle), looks great and I really like the feel of the keys.
