I do understand the whole "market value" thing, and that rarity determines price, and price fluctuates based on what collectors will pay. But if you think about it, that's sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy: when something is rare, collectors pay a lot for it, which means that when they sell the item years later, they'll ask for even more than what they paid -- and if someone is willing to pay that much for it, that person will then ask for even more than what THEY paid years later, etc.

The only way to break the chain is either (1) for the seller to kindly sell the item at a loss, thus effectively lowering its market value, or (2) for collectors to stop buying these items at such exorbitant prices, thus decreasing demand and forcing the seller to lower the price in order to sell the item.

As long as sellers continue trying to turn a profit, though, and collectors continue paying out the nose for these rare items, the items will continue being priced higher and higher and eventually become so expensive that people will start backing away from collecting for the MSX at all because it's just too expensive a hobby.

It's kind of the catch-22 of collecting -- though admittedly, it's also part of the fun, as there's nothing quite like getting a good deal on a rare cart! I'm the proud owner of a loose cartridge copy of Yuurei-kun, which I got for a fraction of what it usually goes for because I held out and waited for just the right deal to come along.

I don't believe Daniel paid a lot less for this game when he imported it to Europe, hoping to make someone happy with it. Making a lot of people happy with MSX items is what he does and has done for quite some years and I've never seen him ask a price which could not be justified by reason. No one can expect of him to ask less than he paid for it.
If I received so much bad feedback for such a service I'd think twice the next time.
@Daniel: Please correct me if I'm wrong.
@The rest: Deal with it.

Now please stay on topic. Arguing about the price is not the topic here.

My apologies if any offense was taken! I was more waxing philosophical on the nature of collecting -- I wasn't specifically criticizing Daniel, but more suggesting that the entire way the collector's market works is kind of flawed, and trying to suggest that if people want to see the prices for goods go down, they should just stop buying them when they're super-expensive. We kind of do this to ourselves, in a way!

Anyway, sorry again if any offense was taken. Definitely not intended!

I do agree that there are a lot of people on e-bay trying to make as much money out of it as possible. Selling stuff they don't feel attached to to people who'd do anything to get their hands on it. They're not good for the community of collectors. But as long as there are people with a lot of money to spend who just pay it, this won't change. The same goes with concert tickets for great acts who sell a stadium in a few minutes. You'll see overpriced tickets pop up just a day later on secondhand trading sites. Such people are the rotten apples and everybody who's visits mrc regularly knows Daniel ain't one of them. Therefore I defend him fiercly. Thanks to him there are many people having stuff they wouldn't have had it for the same price if they got it anywhere else (except for straight from Japan, but that's a risk, and Daniel takes that risk for us).

Argon: for that comment you got a pack of ultra-envy people, 20 Euro for a good complete CPK is something unreal lucky. You could have won 90 million Euro Jackpot as well Wink

I had to buy three incomplete sets for building one good set (better than is for sale now) a long time ago. It's hard to say what I paid for my complete CPK in the end (even after I sold the extras), but it was for sure at least couple of hundreds.

LOL, I would have preferred winning the Euro Jackpot then
