Hello,
Recently, I've been looking to get my hands on an msx 2 for less then $100.
Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

Try marktplaats.nl . Look for a NMS 8245 or 8250 .They sell for approximately 50 euro . Where do you live ? Shipping outside Europe can make it expensive though.

Or send a mail to Bas Kornalijnslijper. ( kornalijnslijper@quicknet.nl ) . Maybe he still has a MSX2 NMS 8250 or NMS 8245 in stock . In March I bought a MSX monitor from him.

I live in the US, so I would rather pay in dollars then euros. Also, English would be nice too. But thank you, regardless.

I got plenty of msx 2's, previously sold one to the UK and it (probably, still haven't received it back) had some HW problems after arrival. Send another which worked ok for a month and then that one had some problems.

These machines are almost 30 years old and the soldering has become dry (loose contacts), I'm afraid to sell another to someone half around the world. Are you experienced in electronics repair (or willing to accept no garantues at all?)?

If so I can send you a MSX 2 but shipment will be about 40$ (dhl) and the MSX will cost you depending on what model you like (I got pleny vg8225, nms8245, nms8250, nms8255, nms8280). They have US keyboard and are in English. Can add stuff like music modules/fm pac's/scc/etc.

But again, I'll send you a working unit and will package it well but once it's gone I won't take it back. The risk is yours if you want one.

Why do you have to pay in US Dollars? Apart from this, don't forget that it seems MSX2 was never released in any English speaking countries. Some MSX2 computers have ended up for sale on www.ebay.com , but it seems they're more expensive than on other sites. I got my Philips VG8235 MSX2 computer from a private seller on www.ebay.nl . I later found out it was a member of the Dutch club MVM, so perhaps you can get in touch with that club on http://www.m-v-m.nl/ .

Don't forget you can use Google Chrome for translating web sites, although it doesn't always work.

I would advise Japanese MSX computers for users in USA. Basically because they operate on 100v (110 with tolerance) and have NTSC video output by default. Problem with European computers is PAL, 220V and even with output from RGB (scart connector) this can lead to problems with typical American TV sets.

O.geerdink. May I ask you a question? I see you have a huge knowledge about MSX machines. I have two factory sealed Phillips VG8020. Dou you think they still work. I have never used them. I bought them to my personal computer collection. I ask you this question because you said these machines had almost 30 years and they might not work. Thank you.

The soldering problems i only had with the msx 2 models and color monitors. All my msx 1's from Philips work but i got 3 of those and about 30 msx 2's
